To start this chapter, I made a Brainteasers.ppt to play as a game with my students.
I divided my students up into teams. When I put the question on the screen, the teams wrote down their answers and brought it up to me to check. The first team to get the correct answer got a point.
The first 2 slides are examples so the students can practice thinking outside the box.

Is it just me, or does that chapter title sound terrible to anybody else as well? Doesn't the adverb 'soundly' answer the question?

ammislan, I really like some of the riddles you used. I haven't seen them on here (yet), so they seem original and suited well enough to my students.
kyndo, the adverb makes sense in the context of the story. Usually the hungry cat does not sleep well (soundly), but Minsu finds the cat sleeping soundly despite eating none of its food. How is this so? It ate one of the fish from the fishbowl.
My attached zipped file deals with word puzzles (riddles) and picture puzzles (optical illusions). If there is time after doing the book, I'll touch on the sound puzzles (auditory illusions) at the end of the presentation.
This is modified (and improved) from an optical illusion ppt from elsewhere on this site.

Oh, I see, thanx. Just goes to show how context can completely change how one understands a sentence.
...
...
...although "How does the cat sleep so soundly?" would make that meaning much clearer

I threw a few PPTs together for the "Have you ever" section. the base is by jeonjubibimbap while the bingo game is from adamjaythomas and the instructions were created by me.
I'll also post a lesson I used to teach "have you ever" earlier in the year(lets communicate of lesson 3), using a nice, fun game. You can use this for ideas.

In my second class I think I will play Epistemology's "Have you ever?" game. My ppt for the lesson features the QU focus on sounds, Take it easy/Relax/Calm down phrases, and a review of riddles and optical illusions (these graciously taken from Epistemology's presentation).
And after this, it's break time!

For the first part of this chapter, I put together a PPT combining the best parts from Epistemology and ammislan's great work...THANKS goes to them! I go through a thorough review of past participle for the "Have you ever...?" expression in the chapter (this is from Epistemology's earlier "have you ever" lesson - thanks again!).
I then break the students into teams, usually groups of four, and hand out whiteboards and markers. If you don't have whiteboards, just use paper or have the kids write in their notebooks (if they have them). I give them 1.5 minutes to write as many "Have you ever" questions using the words in the presentation. Give them two points for each complete (and logical) sentence.
I finish the lesson with some riddles taken from ammislan's PPT. 2 minutes for each riddle, then review the answers with them. Most get the first few...I got a lot of dirty looks with the last riddle about the 2 coins.
