I've made this PPT to use during lesson 8 (after Warm Up and Listen & Speak 1). In groups, students simply unscramble the sentences - first correct sentence gets a point. I have access to mini-whiteboards and have groups of 4 students (32-36 per class).

It's for next week so haven't used it yet. Also, the beginning of the PPT is a separate part of the lesson I just wanted it all on the same PPT.

Animal cards for PICTIONARY, CHARADES, GO FISH, & MATCHING GAMES

Here is a ppt that covers some of the key expressions and functions in this lesson. I've also got some English/Korean animal cards in the works, so I'll upload those once they are finalized too.

I've uploaded a set of 36 different animal cards for use in pictionary, charades, go fish, or any sort of matching game. They are mostly bold black & white pictures that look good blown up and shrunk down to 9 on a sheet size. Features English and Korean animal names. Laminate them to have years of fun! Download now for the low low price of free!

Here are a couple of simple practice ideas to supplement the book exercises and ppts.

I have the students work in pairs to connect the sentences. Then they turn the paper over and try to remember the sentence as they write it the meaning in Korean. Multiple answers are possible.

With the cut-up sentences, I laminate them and give a set to each group of 3-5 students. Maybe multiple answers are possible.

Listening activity for animal partner videos.

First we just watch one video. Then go over the questions for that video. I play the video twice, make sure everyone is listening and trying to answer. Then I call on students to give an answer.

Then repeat for each video.

This is a complete lesson for Chapter 8, Part I.

I usually cover the Listen & Speak sections from the textbook, but those audio dialogs tend to be pretty brutal and boring; the kids know it, the KTs know it, and I certainly know it.

I tried an experiment, swapping out the standard L&S drivel for a short story.  I recorded the audio myself, though the story was originally found on the big thread for this textbook, courtesy of codetornado.  I made a massive overhaul of the story, changed the wording a bit, and created a lot of animations.  The audio is synced with the PPT, so just let it fly.

Afterwards, I followed codetornado's idea and had the students answer some questions about the story, and then do an activity where they use the key expressions to find out the rules and the # of animals at the zoo.

Overall the lesson went really well.  I provided all of the audio files for the story; save them in the same directory as the PPT and it should work fine.  If you want to re-record it yourself, or fiddle with the animations, by all means go ahead.  But author's warning, it takes a long time to get all of that done.  FYI I'm using a bad English accent on the story, to disguise my voice and give the kids practice listening to different accents...it didn't work, of course.  They knew it was me.

This is a complete lesson for Chapter 8, Part II.

I borrowed a lot of ideas from jeonjubibimbap, beeko79, and casedog015 for this lesson - thanks to all of them!

The lesson is pretty straightforward.  This lesson covers Listen & Speak 2.  The main activity is a Matching Game using the expression "Excuse me?"  The point is to have the students understand the concept of rephrasing.  The handout has 16 sentences on it, which are rephrased sentences for corresponding slides on the PPT.  The students must match the # of the sentence to the proper slide.  You can have them write it down, raise their hands, or group concensus.

I also have a short handout with three sentences.  The students must rephrase the sentences themselves.  This is an extremely difficult task for lower-level students/classes, so you'll have to provide a lot of help and monitoring.

If you still have time, try doing something fun and non-textbook related.  Pictionary, Hot Seat, or Scategories, are all fun options.

There are notes in the PPT; more information there.  Make sure to save the audio/video files in the same directory as the PPT file and everything should work fine.
