Jam it out!

I taught my 3rd grade students "Looking Forward to Seeing You" by Golden Smog, sung by Jeff Tweedy.  It's a very easy song to pick up and the lyrics are 100% suitable for the lesson.  Listen a few times to the song to get the timing right and use the PPT like the teleprompter at a 노래방.   I wasn't sure if the students would like the style of music, but many of them were singing right along.

If you use this in your class, let me know how it goes.

This is the first part of the ppt I made for this lesson, got through about half of it. Borrowed a lot of ideas from people on here, again, thanks everyone! Some classes have liked the "I'm going on a date" writing activity, some haven't. Go figure. This focuses way more on the grammar phrases and using new vocabulary than on every little idea in the book...I tend to stay away from just repeating the textbook, and my school usually wants me to focus more on teaching conversation than on just the pages in the book. Enjoy!

Where is the song?  I've searched on youtube a couple of different ways, but I can't seem to come across the one that you're talking about.

Hi All!

So... I've been hesitant to post anything on Waygook, because my creations are often pathetic(!) compared to some of yours!
Anyway... here's my first venture into the world of Prezi. Actually, it's not entirely my own :(
I've just changed @sheila's AMAZING prezi to suit my own needs (Lesson 5, part II), & only the "speaking & listening" bits (my school wants me to stick quite closely to the books). I've also added the trailer for "Snow White & the Huntsman" (to keep things hip-'n'-trendy & whatnot...)

There are no ingenius games (It's *very* simple!)... still, I'm rather chuffed that I managed to figure out even this much. Prezi isn't as scary as it looks! :D

I hope somebody'll be able to benefit from my meagre offering!

(Hmmm... I should probably change the title, since it's morphed into something quite other than discussion of houses & places! Meh... whatever!)

I am mostly required to use the book, but I like to do a game or activity afterward. I found a survivor game on this thread and had the students practice the phrase "you should keep me because". They all had to think of 4 reasons that they should remain on the island and then say one each round. The only problem was the classes with worse discipline would just vote themselves off..

I forgot to post that I played the song through Grooveshark.  This message may come too late to help you though.  :(

Hi All

I've used a lot of the helpful material from here so I'm just returning the favor. I Just had to create a review worksheet for J.L. Haas Lessons 1 to 5. It has 1 question from each lesson. The students will have to complete the worksheet as preparation then I will ask them random questions from the worksheet in the speaking test. I hope it can be useful. I also created a basic rubric and I will post the Gr 2 and Gr 1 in their respective sections.

Hey all, Does any one have an unposted game on here?  For maybe 30ish minutes.  I have used the Advice Game and the Simpsons Game I've attached to this post.  I think I have enough slides for some speaking but my classes seem to be sooo bored without a game and I'd like to use a game that isn't Stop The Bus.  Any help would be awesome.

This lesson covers two classes. There is more than enough stuff to use here (I do believe that I added bits throughout the week and then didn't do some of the more mundane activities in some classes). Anyway, here it is for you to look through and edit as you like. I used a lot of material already posted on here, including the comic strip idea and the matching advice slips activity. The first slides I used the four corners game to get them out of their seats - it worked for some of my classes. In other's they just didn't want to get up!

Someone also posted a ppt which included a 'where in the world' activity (absolutely brilliant) but only contained a few slides. I added to this and made it into an "I'm looking forward to travelling to......." with about 10 slides into a game with teams. It was a HUGE success with my classes and they really liked it. The only regret I have is not making more slides as they really did enjoy it. It got pretty loud though so if I couldn't hear which team shouted their team-name first I'd make them rock, paper, scissor it out between them.

Hope this helps someone out.

Here's a multi-level listening/gap fill activity I made for this lesson. It's really simple, read it two or 3 times, have students practice speaking and answering CC questions. You can change the names if you like. Enjoy!

Here's a worksheet that I put together that covers the part about asking for advice. For part A, I went over 3 phrases in my class: "Can you give me some tips/advice?", "What do you think I should do?", "Please give me some advice/tips."
