Here's a simple Powerpoint I created for "Before and After" based on the conversation on pp 113-115 from the book. For the last slide I included a picture of myself from when I was young and now (I had long hair so it gave a good comparison for the kids).

I've attached "Cee-Lo Green - Bright Lights Bigger City" missing lyrics sheet + answers. Vids are linked to the worksheets. You can choose to show the original video (1st link) but the students find it difficult to find/hear the missing words. As an alternative, I've used the song with lyrics (2nd link) to guide them along. Mind you, they are masters at the no-look writing (astonished as to how good they really are at writing while not taking their eyes off of the screen), so this won't stretch very far into the lesson this way.

Hey!

Combined the bright lights lyric activity with the posted powerpoint, and also came up with some activities for pg.110 A,B and made like an intro ppt of sorts.

First one is spot the differences, but basically asking "how" picture b changes from picture A. Group activity, where each group will write down on a sheet of paper as many differences as they can.

Second one is showing some animation videos and asking them if they "remember" what happened. Same groups, point for each correct answer.

Thanks to previous posters for your material, it was awesome! Would say this powerpoint is for intermediate level and up.

Thanks so much for sharing your ideas and material! I'm in the same boat as rookiewaygook, I have an open class on this lesson on Thurs but I am finding that there isn't quite enough for the entire 45 minutes (and there's only so much repetition and drilling I can do with my intermediate Grade 3s before they start tuning out - the key expressions are simple enough not to warrant that).

Any ideas on an activity/worksheet/game that could take 10-15 min? I'm terrible at coming up with creative worksheets. For the lyric activity posted, did any of your students ask for clarification on "cocktails and conversation, music and making love"?

I'm trying to imagine explaining that while other teachers/the principal is there...

There are three things I have learned while I have been here. They love the Simpsons, Starcraft, its okay to make fun of yourself. I convince some of my co-teacher's to give me pictures of them when they were younger to excite the class a little bit.

I basically started with a Simpsons commercial, did the listen/talk sections, and then ended it with a Starcraft bomb game (that I took from CultureShock and changed the aesthetics.)

Great idea with the before and after pictures of the teachers! I've just asked all my co-t's to send me pics, I hope they do.

Unfortunately I couldn't unzip the file, I keep getting a corrupted file/unrecoverable something error. Any chance you might be able to post just the PPT? Thank you!

Hey everyone, thank you so much for all the great ideas for this lesson, I took some ideas from everyone and tweaked it all a little to make my version of this lesson.
Start w/ the video of NY helicopter tour (link is in the PPT), talk about cities a little.
follow slides practicing new terms then play Simpsons coke commercial and follow up w/ some questions.
Next I'll have them work with a partner practicing and finnish w/ a little book work/activity.
I haven't used this lesson yet, but it follows a pretty normal flow that I use.

Here's mine! I can't access the grade 3 book cd on my school computer, so the last slides must still be completed (explaining the comm.task)

My intro ppt are of some pics of bright cities around the world and some discussions with the key expressions. My students already did the listen & talk / in conversation part with the other English teacher - i only do comm tasks with this class... so it's just a recap ppt.

I also have a video in there - it's a Dove Evolution commercial. It's about a "model" getting ready for a photo shoot and how much the photo gets edited / airbrushed. It's awesome for before / after and the students can discuss it.

took a little of everything and here is my prezi
my school forced me to teach this lesson the two weeks after exams and before summer vacation so it's not very long and relies heavily on the game at the end ~ enjoy!!

Here is my PPT for lesson 7. I open with the Simpsons Coke commercial (Youtube) and a short explanation. I found a really cool PPT template that hopefully will load for everyone. I really wanted an excuse to bust out my Apples to Apples Kids cards, so the game at the end I made up so I could use them. You can cut that part out or make your own cards if you want. The cards just say random, simple nouns like pizza, Mickey Mouse, homework, puppies, etc.

Here's a quick activity to use as a warm-up, wrap-up or quick activity.

I am attaching a document containing several celebrity before/after photos (all stolen from the internet). I am planning to print off the document, then cut apart each set of celebrity photos.

I will distribute the pictures randomly to my class and have them walk around to figure out which pictures go together and find their partner. (There are 10 sets of photos since my class is only 20 students. You could also print the pictures in duplicates and have students work together in groups).

Once students have found their partners, I'll have them work together to write a brief dialogue about what the celebrity used to be like.

Simple, but hope it helps!

I'd like to use this material too.
It will attract student's attention because the questions have very various subjects. (cartoon, famouse singer, funny ficture etc)

One idea is to show them Daum street view in class. . . you can show them how their neighbourhood looked 4 years ago and how it looks today.. . . with the change of pace in Korea, some of the contrasts are remarkable.

Here is my lesson, I took from everyone and made one lesson. Week 1, I ended after the group activity. I let them hear the song twice so they could finish the fillin blank. I havnt quite finished week 2. But it will be the 2nd key phrase and a review.
