Alright, so I teach the listening and speaking part of the textbook, and in this chapter is seems to cover two points: when and how to say congratulations, and answering true or false to a question. The first week I'm going to cover congratulations. I made one puzzle that teaches some synonyms of congratulations, and the crossword is about situations where it is appropriate to say congratulations. Hope this helps!

Thanks! There is a mistake on the synonym slide. Instead of it being 'I'm so proud of you' it should be 'I'm so happy for you'....sorry!!

Thanks for this lesson.  I am going to use it next week, although I might add some additional stuff, these kids have a really high level.

PS - I've used some of your other lessons before, and they have all worked great, thanks again!

Here is my lesson for the second part of chapter 10. I'm focusing on answering true or false, and 'Yes, it is. No, it isn't. I think you've got that wrong". I do some of the exercises in the book then watch the science videos. Afterwards, the students answer the questions about the videos.

"I hear that.." and science? This is a job for the Mythbusters!

I'm going to do sort of a betting game where I ask "I heard that..." (I know the book uses "I hear that", but I think "I heard that" is much more common) and teams have to bet on "Yes it is!"  or "No, I think you've got it wrong."  I have 6 slides with questions and youtube links are in the little note bar at the bottom.

A big part of this lesson is public service announcements to my kids. I have a short introduction with "I heard that smoking ages your skin." just to give them another reason not to smoke. I also think it's important they learn what happens if you use water on grease fires and that driving while on a cell phone is dangerous. And I think they'll go crazy over the clip of the Korean "hwatcha" in action too!

Thanks butterfly! There is also a Korean show that is similar to Mythbusters (kinds/sorta) called Sponge on the KBS channel. There are quite a few versions of Sponge though - two of them are Sponge 2.0 and Sponge Zero.

Thank you ArmoredButterfly!

Because my internet connection isn't reliable, I took your myths and embed them into the Powerpoint. Does anybody know how to use these videos to promote "conversation"? I think they will benefit from the videos but I just feel like I'm not doing my job as a conversation teacher right...

Anyways, anybody can feel free to download the zip file from here.

Thanks a bunch for this lesson. Short and easy. Student's have been tired after exams. This will be a good lesson for a laid back class.

Here's a powerpoint introducing the key expressions, "I hear that...Is it True..Yes, it is...No, it isn't...I think you've got it wrong". Please adapt, upgrade, change. It includes a science experiment which has been posted here before. I'm going to do it with my class as it's clean and easy.

All you need is a balloon, a soft drink bottle, baking soda and lemon juice. After we've covered the work and drilled the expressions in the book, I'm going to get them to try it themselves. Perhaps a prize for the best inflated balloon.

Battleships game for this lesson.  I got most of this from someone's battleship game in MS 2, but I changed the fonts etc and did in in ppt instead.   The sentences are obviously also different.  I did this game cause I completely forgot to make an activity for my lesson today, so uploading it for anyone else in the same... boat. :P

Very self explanatory. All useless facts. You will know which ones are false.

ArmoredButterfly: This is a great idea for a game. How long does the game usually take? I usually only have about 10 minutes at the end of class to play games. DO you think this will be enough time?

It's called Stevespanglerscienc e My students liked them since it's short, easy to understand. Steve was part of a morning show I think. Hope this helps.

As the third graders have finished their final exams for this chapter the school has allowed me to make my own lesson. I used this thread http://waygook.org/index.php/topic,1642.40.html for a PPTand a worksheet. I have made a who wants to be a millionaire game. The students play as a class, each group taking a turn. If one group is stuck they can choose to ask the co teacher( make a call) or ask the audience (ask the rest of the class). If students get it wrong there is a try again option. I am giving them only 2 attempts, after that they have to start from the bottom again. To make this fair each class has 20 minutes to play the game.

First students in partners do the inventions and inventors worksheet, then I give them answers, then show the PPT, then we play the game. I didn't make this very difficult and there are some questions from the reading part of the text book. The class that wins gets to watch a  movie and choco pies. Hope this is useful for someone.
