I can't find a publishing date in the books. I know my school's been using them since at least 2009.
Also, does everyone have the Teacher's Book and the Teacher's Resource Books? There's good instructions and answers/translations in the former, and a lot of extra material in the latter. Your co-teachers have them, if you haven't seen them yet.

Here are my Lesson 7 PowerPoints for Grade 2! I changed up the Starcraft Bomb game (to be used at the end of the lesson) from rookiewaygook to match the theme of this lesson. I also shortened the original to only 14 questions, instead of 25. You can download the introduction PowerPoint here, and the Starcraft Bomb game from this site: http://www.2shared.com/document/ZZ25c2yG/Grade2Lesson7_Starcraft_Bomb.html (It is more than 80mb, though...)

I hope it works for someone!

Trying to come up with a lesson on poor Inky the whale. Might just go with what's in the book, get it out the way and move on to something hopefully a bit more interesting/accessible. Unless anyone has any suggestions?

Its actually good to know that there are teachers' books as well. I've only got the one the students are using, need to ask my co-teacher about that 1.

I didn't use the actual story but I kept with the theme and did a Save the Planet lesson.
I posted it on the main MS thread here:

Hopefully it helps :)

Anyone flipped through chapter 9 in the regular book and activities book for grade 3, "Korea is a Great Country"? Lol propaganda at its finest. Some of the stuff in there makes me want to laugh but then I remember that this is what we are expected to teach the kids and that makes me a sad panda.

These books are garbage but it's what I have to deal with this year. I am tasked with teaching the "Talk Together" sections of the textbook. I'll post materials as I create them. I'm starting from chapter 10 this year.

Thanks for that Chloenj, my last class dive bombed a bit, but these videos should get the students attention at the very least. Thanks!  :D

1st year, Lesson 8 -> supplementary worksheet.
approx. < 20 minutes of working and speaking practice for the grammar point "No, I don't think so" I let the students get creative, and interpret the pictures as they like. The can also answer "Yes, I think so" if they want.

And here's an extra something to do for 2nd year, Lesson 7
Print these 2 pages on different colored pieces of paper to make it easier. Some kids get problems, others have solutions. Slice the paper into individual cards, make the kids talk to each other until they find a match. One kid takes both cards, and sits down.
It uses grammar and vocab from this book, and theoretically, they can answer these. For example:
"I smell bad"
"Do you know how to take a bath?"

I have these and am SO glad others agree that they're disjointed--to the point I feel mentally disjointed teaching them!  And my KTs want me to stick to the book material, so I can't just use the topics and make my own  materials.  I've been able to use the "What we'll learn" phrases a bit creatively and have gotten them to do some different activities with the dialogues, but that's the extent of what I can think up within my parameters.  I would LOVE to get more ideas from long-termers about these--looks like I'll have them for another year!

Any ideas on how to make games out of the topic sentences or dialogues?  I just read through these and my mind goes blank, there's no structure.

Second this. I've been making up some powerpoints with funny pictures and stuff to help the kids practice speaking with each other which I'll post later but I am at a total loss for how to make fun games from the "Talk Together" sections. The sentences and dialogues are all over the place. I feel like the poor content in these textbooks is bringing down my teaching as a whole since I am forced to teach all the material from them.

Also, is there any way to make this thread more organized in terms of materials for each grade and chapter? I'm used to the elementary boards where everything is neatly labeled and separated into lists.

Check out my above worksheets. They are for the "Talk together" section, and I feel they work pretty well. I do them in conjunction with the book, to add some spice to the dreadfulness. You can also film you and friends speaking these dialogs together, and showing them before each speaking activity. Makes the students pay attention, gives them a good speaking model instead of Cathy and Minho.
I second the idea of organizing this into chapter so the material would be easy to find. But we might need some more active posters for this book.

The supplementary books are largely in English! They didn't give them to me until I had been here a month and asked for them a few times. They're very useful, and you should try to get them. Since I know that it might be tough to convince your Korean co-teachers, I am including a photo of the Teacher's Guide (the very important one) and the extra book with worksheets and crossword puzzles for each chapter.
I know, right?

Here's a powerpoint to introduce Lesson 9 - "Beauty of Hangeul" with an introduction to the English Alphabet VS Korean Alphabet. It works well, I think:
