Greetings all. Today I made an animal sounds lesson I thought I'd share with everyone. I made it for my after school class of 2nd and 3rd graders. Here's the rundown:
1. Help! The farm animals have escaped from the barn! Use the PPT and have the students help you catch the escaped animals by identifying their sounds.
2. Review the animals and their sounds with the PPT.
3. Practice the animal sounds with this great song by ELF:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EwIOkOibTgM4. A great book to read with the class would be Go Ask Mr. Bear (PPT attached to this post). You can divide the class into groups and give them animal sound cards. Have them hold up their sound cards and make their animal's sound when they see it in the text of the book or when the teacher ques them.
5. Use small paper plates and make animal masks with your students. Have them pick their favorite animal from the lesson and draw it on their paper plate. Then, have students come up one by one or in pairs to show their mask and say a couple lines detailed in the PPT.
6. You can close the class by reviewing the animal sounds all together or singing the ELF song.
P.S. - The Ask Mr. Bear book may be a little redundant for your students so feel free to edit as you see fit.
Happy teaching!
