Grade 3 Hi, I'm__. Period 1 and Period 3
« on: March 07, 2011, 09:06:59 AM »
Hi Everyone Here are my "lesson plans" to period 1 and 3. period 3 can be used by period 2. Just follow along with the ppt. You will need to change my photo on the ppt to yours or something else. This can be used with any textbook.

Cheers
Maureen

I made this hidden picture game for Grade 4 Lesson 1 ("My name is"), but you can easily change the sentences to match the grammar you are teaching.  The main difference between it and the original one posted is that mine has a "clear" button to take away all the squares at once, once your kids have guessed the person's identity.

Thanks to Maureen for reminding me about this fun little game!

Hey Maureen;

Thanks so much for the PPT's!  I'm going to use your Game PPT for Period 3.  Just wondering if you have a template for the "Guess the picture behind the blocks" on PPT?  My kids love this game so I would like to make some of my own for other grades.

Thanks so much!

Here's the template I made for "guess the picture."  Its most awesome feature is the "clear" button, so you don't have to click twenty more times after your kids guess the answer.  Yay, templates!

Change the colors, square sizes, etc to suit your needs.

Here's a warm-up/motivation video that can be used with any of the 3rd grade textbooks:

Before we showed the video, I had my co-teacher explain a little bit about what's going on in the song (that Joe works in a factory, his boss keeps asking him if he's busy, and he keeps saying "no"). The Ss had a lot of fun trying to keep up with all of the motions.

Here is a simple PPT that my students seemed to enjoy! It's also for practicing "Hello, I'm _____"

Here's a bomb game that I borrowed from someone on here then modified to suit my grade 3s. It's pictures of cartoon characters, and the kids have to say "My name is __"

Here is a powerpoint presentation of the PeterPan Showtime in part 4. My coteacher and I discussd the problems associated with acting it out in class everytime. Namely time contraints for l;etting the whole class go. And even presenting quickly, the number of kids who got bored and created behavior problems in class. Don't get me wrong- there is value to the activity. But it causes us headaches.

So we are going to print these slides and play a version of Mother May I. (We call it the Shark game). Then the kids still practice speaking, are engaged, and the teachers aren't so frazzled and unhappy at the end of class.

If you are interested you need some magnets (to tape), team markers, and 2 dice. (One marked with 1,2,3 and 'home' The second should have 1 'shark' on only 1 of the faces). Post the papers in order at the top of the board. These are your 'board spaces'.
How to Play
~Everyone starts with their marker at home with one teacher at the board and one circulating the class.
~The first team rolls and is moved the corredct number of spaces.
~The whole team gives the target phrase they are under.
~They then roll the 'Shark' Dice
~ If the shark is rolled, all OTHER teams must go back home (to escape the shark)
~ If no shark is rolled, the next team starts their turn
~If a team rolls home. that team must return 'home' (go back to the beginning)
~The first team to the end wins, or the team the farthest along when the bell rings.

My kids love it and yell 'shark, shark' all the time. In fact we started singing the Baby Shark song to get the kids enthused. (a good song for 4th grde family memebers also). It works with all sorts of vocabulary and target phrases.
