Credit to another waygook poster. PPT and word doc were posted in another forum and reposting here for convenience.

This is a complete lesson for Chapter 11, Part I.  It covers Listen & Speak I, "It's our job to..."

As final exams are approaching, my Grade 3 classes have become restless and disinterested in everything.  As a result, I've changed my usual class format and approached these final lessons in a more game-like fashion.  I touch on the grammar and English content, but I focus more on the theme of the chapter, which (usually) is more interesting than the language focus.

This PPT is a combination of several ones already on this site, but the main contributors were latchford and wolftashie.  Major thanks to them!

I do an overview of environmental issues, then use the key expression to elicit from the students ideas for conservation and saving energy.  I use the music video from Earth Song by Michael Jackson to illustrate some hot-topic environmental and social issues from the 1990s (which are still relative today, sadly).  It should be interesting to see their reaction when they find out the issues presented in the song are still issues today, when the song was written almost 20 years ago.

Finish with a short handout from the U.S. Department of Energy.  It's a cryptogram, where symbols stand for letters and the students must "decode" the message (Page 6 in the PDF file).  If there is still time, I will finish the lesson with a Golden Bell game or some other unrelated activity.

Links to the videos are provided in the PPT.  Some slides have comments; more information there and in the lesson plan.

Here is a complete lesson for Chapter 11, Part II.  This covers Listen & Speak 2, "... told us ..."

I struggled to think of anything for this lesson.  The expressions for this chapter were really difficult to produce material off of.  With this lesson, briefly review the past tense, since "told us" is the past tense of "tell us."  I gave a few examples of usage, and had the students translate the sentences into Korean, to check comprehension.  Do the Listen & Speak 2 section (audio files included).

Then do several rounds of Pass the Pencil, Angry Birds style.  I have two plush Angry Birds toys that I use instead of pencils for this round, but pencils have always worked for me in the past, so no need to go out and buy anything.  The Angry Birds theme is included in the downloads.  Have two pencils going around the room, and the students must read the A and B sections on the slides.

There is also an Angry Birds board game, which my students absolutely loved!  Instead of dice, have them play Rock Paper Scissor to choose how many spaces to move (the key is on the board game).  Each square has an interesting fact on it; the student says "Our teacher told us that ..." and the sentence on the square they are one.  The other students in the group can say "Sounds interesting" or "Sounds boring."  Again, a very simple speaking exercise that the students love.

This lesson may run a little short, so have some other activity as a back-up, just in case.  As always, save the audio files in the same directory as the PPT and everything should work fine.  Some slides have comments; more information available there and in the lesson plan.
