Grade 1 Lesson 2 : Do you have healthy habits?

(this one is in link with Listent and Speak 1)

1. Make them brainstorm the daily routines that are in the book, add some new ones.
2. I printed this 2 page worksheet on both sides of one page. First they fill it out by themselves, then they ask their partners about routines and fill those answers out on the other side of the sheet.

3. They watch 1 or both of the videos and write down as many daily routines as they can. (1 video is easy, one is much more difficult). Videos should be linked in the PPT too.

I also use these books (same as last year) and will be uploading my ppts as i make them to help some people out.  Most of the PPTs that i do create will be for grade 1's though but hope it helps anyways.

Right now we are starting lesson 2 -Do you have healthy habits and i do lets communicate and think and write.  For the lets communicate its fairly straight forward as the kids fill out the table and ask their partner the same questions about habits.  For step 3 my co teacher and i will be showing them some more good habits (10 to be exact) which i have created a ppt for. Then we will hand them a work sheet and play a sort of mingle activity where the kids have to ask as many of their peers the 10 different habits that we showed on the ppt.  I think we will do a race (havent had the lesson yet so we will try it out tomorrow to see how it goes) and see who can get 10 different of their peers to sign yes (one student per habit).  The kid that does that will win.  Make sure you monitor that the kids are having a dialogue and not just signing yes to their friends paper.

Hope this helps.  Good luck to everyone for the new year and check out www.sharpenthatpenc il.com.  Its new but easy to navigate and it has a lot of good activities and some ppts that i have used in the past.

This is my lesson plan for Grade 1 Lesson 2, covering the "dialogue" on page 25.  It basically follows the powerpoint.

1.  (5 min) Review Clock Times
2.  (10 min) Do the 1st "dialogue" on page 25
A: What time do you get up?
          B:  Usually at 7:00
     Making the students use "usually."
3.  Got through the next few slides practicing the dialogue.
4.  Practice with your friends.  Since it is so easy and simple, they only get 1 minute and then I make a few lucky individuas stand up and show off.  They have to change the underlined parts of the conversation.
5.  (10 min) Do the same for the 2nd "dialogue" on page 25.
A: What do you do after dinner?
          B: I listen to music?
6. Activity
(Explanation 7 min) I hand out pieces of paper that have either times or activities written on them (boys get activities and girls get times).  (See slide 20 for the times and activities).    The boys will then have to stand up and find their partner (girl with matching time.) (show slide 20 so that they can find the right partner) On the board I write:
Boys:  What time do you ____?
          Girls:   Usually at _____.
(Find partner 5 minutes) They have to use this text to find their partner and then they sit down together.  I try to make this short.  They will stand around talking if I let them, so at about minute 3 I start saying, "sit down" so that by five minutes almost everyone has found their parnter--but you have to be on them to make sure it doesn't take all day.
Go though day: 10 min) Then we go through the day one by one.  On the board I write:
Girls: What do you do at _ (time)_?
          Boys: I _____.
After "I wake up." I ask the class, "What do you do next?"  And the students with the next activity (brush teeth) stand up and do their part.
I always have one of the activities--usually somewhere in the middle--so I provide a short break for humor by talking in a gravely man voice.

Grade 1 Lesson 2 Think and Write
Pretty much straight out of the book and then i show them a PPT using myself and my daily life.  We use a seperate worksheet that my co teacher gave to me and have the students draw the hands on a clock with some of the things in step 1.  After they draw the hands they  move on to step 2 and write sentences and then present if theres still enough time in the class.  Hope this helps.
