What do 3rd and 4th graders like these days? ^^;

What things do children ages 10-11 (3rd-4th grade) enjoy these days? ^^;

I'm only teaching 3rd and 4th grade this year. Double yay! At the start of every school year, I take a written survey to learn the interests, hobbies, and favorite things of my students.

This is my 8th year teaching English. I've taught every grade in both elementary and middle school. But for awhile now, I've been assigned to only teaching the older students. I'm out of the youthful loop a bit. Haha.

Knowing what 5th and 6th graders like is easy: K-pop idols, TikTok, anime, webtoons, and the Netflix series they definitely shouldn't be watching at their age (i.e. "Squid Game," "D.P."). LOL.
But it's been a minute since I taught little ones.

What should I ask 3rd and 4th graders this year? ^^

I usually ask for students' favorite game, animation, music, superhero, character, and whatever they want to put under miscellaneous. But I'm thinking I want to substitute something else for "superhero" and "music."

The young ones don't care about idols, and Marvel isn't all that popular with them as it used to be in my previous years.

Anyone have any ideas~? Thank you and much appreciated!

A screenshot of my annual survey is attached. I go through it with students with a PPT, showing them the things I love. And then, I show them lots of examples of things they can write using lots of pictures and gifs.
Finally contributing to this site after 5 years of use. ^_^;

Honestly, in my experience their interests tend to line up fairly well with the older kids. The ones with older siblings learn what's "cool" from them and teach their friends. When Among Us was big is t was all my kids. Marvel is fairly popular among my younger ones as well. As for music, if you ask that they tend to just list whatever is the current biggest pop song (last year when I did my start-of-year survey, a LOT of my 3/4th graders were putting down Dynamite and Rollin lol).

The only difference between the younger and older I would say is that trends tend to stick around with the younger kids much longer than the older kids. My 3rd/4th graders were (are?) still on the Among Us craze far after my 5/6th graders got over it lol.
