So... I've been having my students keep music video journals for after-school class. So far, it's been a really good warm-up for those scatterbrained after-school moods.
At the start of class, we'll watch the day's video, and they fill out a worksheet describing it (examples below). Students must ID the genre, style, instruments, etc., then rate the video (is it dark or cheerful? original or cliche? low production or high production? etc). If it's a song I know they're familiar with, I'll leave blanks in the lyrics section to be filled in. Students keep their worksheets in a manilla envelope or clear plastic binders
Some videos that got particularly good responses were Jamiroquai's "Virtual Insanity," White Stripes' "Hardest Button," anything from Gorillaz, the guy from Muse is apparently "어 베리 배리 핸섬" so that went over well, same goes for Bruno Mars and FUN.... I though Fatboy Slim's "Weapon of Choice" would be hilarious (where Christopher Walken dances in a hotel) but they thought that was boring.
Trouble is ... it's getting harder and harder to find current pop songs that aren't extremely raunchy, and way too risque to show in class.
So.. if you know of interesting, unique, and pg-rated music videos, please post them here. I'm running out of ideas.
EDIT: Waygook is c-blocking the example worksheet I tried to attach..
