I taught last year, but this is an introductory PPT for my grade 3's who haven't had English before. If you want to use it and change the pictures, go ahead!

Here is a simple activity my kids seemed to have really enjoyed. I have a very small 3rd grade class (15 students), but you can easily expand the game by adding more characters.

1. Hand out a character name card to each student.
2. Students must walk around and say "Hello, what's your name? My name is (Shrek)."
3. Because there are two of each character, students must ask around until they find the other student with a matching name card.
4. Change characters as many times as necessary.

Note: Boys loved the boyish characters, and girls the girlie ones (obviously). So an easy way to make them do this more than one round is to occasionally give them the characters they like less, so that they can hope to get one they like more next time.

I would imagine combining grade 3 and 4 into one thread (along with lessons 1 and 2) will not be fun for the mods to merge with the new book listings for the Grade 3 and 4 indexes. Just a thought.

At any rate, since we're here. here's some material for grade 3 lesson 1.

First is a zoom out game my co-teacher used for warm up - we used images of the characters from the book. The program zooms in and the kids (divided into teams) can take turns guessing who the character might be. It's best to zoom out 10% each time. Instructions in English are included in the file as a jpg. Note also that any jpg can be used, you just need to rename them 'm1,' 'm2,' etc.

Next is an introduction to the new characters - I just used someone else's ppt and added pics of the new characters.

The Textbook intro is just a ppt of pg 8 of the book (classroom instructions) with English translations.

The Bingo game ppt is just an intro to a bingo game suggested by the book using the character cards at the back of the book (pg 143).
