If you find yourself playing the name card game and want to ensure your students can keep track of their 'lines' feel free to have this PPT slide up as it shows the dialog necessary for the name card activity.

For this lesson where students are  learning how to introduce themselves.  someone gave me the idea of having the students make a three sided name card name card with their name in korean on one side, english on another side and on the third side have them decorate it with crayons of markers.  Has anyone tried this and if so how long did the activity take?

My co teacher is having me teach my first class as part two of this first chapter without any introduction so I'm thinking I'll be using it to learn names and introduce myself. My plan is to teach the vocabulary in presentation per usual and then opening up to a game where I'll split the class into two groups. One I'll monitor and learn the names of and the other I'll just forsake to obscurity under my co-teachers supervision.

I'll have them toss a beach ball to a random kid and say "What is your name?" to the kid who they toss it to. That kid then responds "My name is X"

And then they continue passing. I can't keep this on too long because it'll be anarchy before long.

Simple PPT to review hello/hi, how are you, hello song to the tune of frarer jacques, and a review of the characters in Go Go Loves English Vidoe, whats your name.  A few things are adapted from other posts. Thank you to the original contributors!

Hello,

I am just uploading a game that I think might be fun.  It is a review game for Chapter one.  I used a Simpsons' Donut Game game template that was created by Teacher Shane from and used the character pictures that were uploaded in this forum.  I hope this will be useful and amusing.  Enjoy.

Yes! I love your videos. Thank you for making them. I joined a group in my city to make some videos but it never materialized.

But, again, your videos are great.  :azn:

Hi Everybody,

I'm a new elementary school teacher here (taught middle school the previous 2 years), and I'm a bit confused about the CD. Do you guys actually use the CD when you teach? Which parts? Or just use your own materials that you made?

Middle school assigned me two pages out of each chapter in the book, and it was super easy to navigate through. I just added supplementary material and created my own stuff.

It depends on your school.  I would talk to your coteacher or another English teacher at your school to find out what is expected.  Some schools have no problem with their foreign teachers using the books as a guide, but other schools want the material followed pretty closely.  I have worked in both environments.

If you are going to have some flexibility, I would suggest sticking to the expressions and vocabulary closely because it serves as the basis for the national and local exams throughout the year.

This is how I teach a Unit.
Each lesson is divided into 4 classes (2 pages per class)

1st Class:
1. Show a PPT about the new vocabulary & phrases and co-teacher will help to explain the meanings.  5-7mins
2. Play the CD of Story A- the first time without captions. Ask them to raise their hands to tell you "What did you hear?" and they can try to remember everything they heard- they seem to like this part because it's like a memory game. Play the story again with captions and the students repeat after the CD. 10 mins
3. Listen & Say: Same as Story A. First the students listen and "what did you hear?", then they repeat after the CD. 5 mins.
4. Chant (I usually use a YouTube video that deals with the same topic (I can't stand the squeaky-voiced kids on CD.) 5 mins
5. Use whatever activity is in the book. 5 mins
6. If there is time left, I do an activity or game relevant to the Target Language. 5-7 mins

2nd Class:
The exact same format as 1st Class, but use a "motivational review" at the start of class, like a quick PPT game, instead of the Intro PPT.

3rd Class: Role Play/Culture Class
I usually do something different everytime for this, but some classes enjoy the role play/some don't. I usually have a 10-15 activity at the end of this class.

4th Class: Review Class
1. Do& Show- I usually don't do this.
2. Check yourself: An easy listening test where they can use the words&phrases from the Unit.
3. A comprehension check- I get the students to talk to each other in groups/pairs using the language form the Unit.

I hope this helps!  ;D

Here's a character intro PPT. The students can guess where the characters are from to make it into a game. Each picture is a clue :-)
