I updated a PPT I found here (What's Missing game) and created a new one (Hidden Picture game) for Lesson 2: It's a Ball.

Grade 3 Lesson 2 It's a ball (Guessing Game
« Reply #4 on: March 22, 2011, 12:40:23 pm »
The internet was working slow so I modified the guessing game and bomb game from a previous lesson.  I think some of the animations in the bomb game may be missing animations or sound effects.

This is my first contribution, I hope it is the first of many.  I would just like to say I think this a great site!

I just wish the download speed/reliability (sometimes Google Chrome says it completed a download but it really didn't) :-(
I am often amazed at how much more capability and enthusiasm for science there is among elementary school youngsters than among college students.

Hey Crantor. Any chance you an upload those games as ppt files? We don't use PP10 here. Really appreciate the effort though.

I like to open with this video clip from a classic YA novel adapted for the screen, which abuses the popular ESL catchphrase:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=elgg-_9_Nz0&feature=related

and then next the beginning of this, a Japanese Pen Song
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-d1LcMu97kY

girl with a pen, goes well with the Percy Jackson clip
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qhgNCubGB1g&feature=related

another Percy Jackson clip that goes well as a reprise at the end:

Making a difference between people, place and things is helpful as well; introducing the term Noun, as the name of a thing instead of the name of a person, ties in with L01.  (Who are you vs. What is this) And this classic grammar rock for Nouns, having the children listen for Person, Place, thing:

Simple guessing game to continue reinforcing the object vocabulary in this lesson:

  • tear out the picture cards
  • put them face-down on the desk between two students
  • mix them up
  • students take turns touching a card, saying "it's a ___," and then turning the card over to see if their guess is correct.

Continuing with the A E I O U theme I started in the first lesson, here's a powerpoint to get acquainted with those vowels in action, using the "What is it?" structure.

Hey guys! New restrictions on waygook have forced me to unleash my 'Nightmare before Christmas game'!!! I want to improve it but alas my powerpoint skills are not good enough yet.

1) First things first. In order for the powerpoint to look aesthetically pleasing you have to install the 'Nightmare before Christmas' font which I am attaching below. Installing it can be a little tricky. On windows 7, its simple open the 'zip file' and the font will demonstrate itself and you click install. On xp you have to venture to 'control panel', display and appearances and look for the fonts there...a drag and drop could work.

2) At the start of class play this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nLG3NL2FScc

When I start the game I let the music go first and ask 'guess what game we are going to play'?

3) click the home button to reveal the points awarded.

PS: Constructive feedback really appreciated. 8)
