EVERY SONG Pass the Ball game
« on: June 24, 2013, 06:24:44 PM »
Okay, not quite "every song", but I was kinda getting tired of the Muppets theme, so I've "upgraded" the standard template a little. Each time they pass the ball it's a different song, from 80s rock to B1A4 (one of the Korean boy bands that the 6th grade girls all love). My 3rd and 4th graders loved it and were having trouble not just dancing all the time. My 5th and 6th graders enjoyed themselves, but restrained themselves because they're at the age where it's too cool to have fun.

Edit: I worked harder and made it better.

Edit2: Just wanted to clarify that this is a template. The songs are there, but you need to add the key phrases for your unit yourself.

The sounds don't work for me. I don't think that they're embedded, but just linked to open from your file folder.

Okay, I'll look into it. You're right, the file should be more like 20 MB, not 1 MB.

The sound doesn't work for me either. The file size is only 1.7MB.

Same issue, none of the songs are embedded into the presentation. If you ever see that little speaker symbol that you hid to the sides then the audio is not embedded into the file and will not be shared when you upload the file.

To embed the audio you need to use a different method. In the animations tab assign the audio to play when you move to the slide. To do this you cannot use an mp3 without adding a riff tag header to the mp3. It is super simple to do though.

Download CDex:

http://cdexos.sourceforge.net/

When you open the program just drag the mp3 files into it. Make sure the box that says "Output RIFF WAV file" is clicked, then click the encode button. This will create new versions of the mp3 files with .wav instead of .mp3, but it keeps the mp3 file size. It is basically tricking powerpoint into thinking that it is a wav file.

PPT will continue to play the audio until the next sound file is played. So I use a little cheat by using an audio file that is just silence on the slide after the music slide, remember it's all in the transition sounds. This way you can play as much of the song as you want until you click to move to the next slide.

Okay, sorry I left this alone for like 2 months, but it should work now!

Zeegs - I did the editing in Audacity so I could just save as wav files, and didn't really need to do anything complicated. So it's a fairly fat ppt for what it is, but it's still under 20 megs so it shouldn't be a problem.

Yeah, as long as the .wav files are small enough it's usually not a problem. If you use too many you need to go into the ppt preferences and manually adjust the amount of memory that is allowed to allocated to media files. The other way I mentioned isn't hard, literally drag and drop. It lets you use entire songs with little space taken up. Glad you got your game working though.

I have been trying for a month to do this.

All of the information online says all you have to do is either create an embedded or linked file but neither works on my computers at work. Just the computer I have at home. I was doing with the MP3 files, though, so now that I have converted it into wav. files, it will work?

It's still not clear to me if I have to link to file or insert it when I click on audio file. I have powerpoint 2010. I think it's insert because that means it's automatic and otherwise, if you go with link to file, you have to click on the audio button.

Also, I am not seeing anything on the animations bar like you are describing. All I can do is add that little icon that looks like a loudspeaker. I can't find anything other than that.

@rocketeerjoe

Don't use the insert command. Just use choose other for the transition animation sound.

It should be a .wav file, but you can alter .mp3 files in a way what they will keep the small file size but be put in a .wav container. Use the application CDex http://cdexos.sourceforge.net/

I was able to figure out cdex but not the animations bar...thanks for clearing that up!

This thread was super helpful! I think. I believe I embedded the song into the PPT. haha

Here's another version of Pass the Ball with Arashi's Troublemaker. Don't worry. It's the karaoke version -- so the kids won't know they're listening to j-pop.

Does anyone know if it's possible to make it to where the song doesn't always start from the beginning? Like, just mute the song over the question slides so that the next "Pass the ball!" slide picks up where the previous one left off? I mean, I love this song, but I don't want to just keep listening to the first few seconds of it. I know there's the option to play different songs, but I wanted to see if anyone knew how to get through the same song.

Also, the original file was too large to upload, so I took all the pics from the "Pass the ball!" slides and put them on one slide at the end. So whoever uses this can copy the pass and question slides and make as many as they want.

OH MY GAWDDDDD, in the words of my students...

THANK YOU SO MUCH! This is perfect. I was using one that just kept playing the Batman Song. By the end of the lesson, my ears were basically bleeding.

Not sure if this is the thread I should piggyback on, or the other main thread...anyway, here's another Pass the Ball template with a "Hot Potato" song instead of the old Muppets theme.

Ok, I made another Arashi-themed Pass the Ball. I don't do k-pop. If nothing else, I think it's wildly inappropriate for elementary students (which I teach).

15 question slides and each song is different - hence the enormous size and decision to use Slide Share. Hope someone else enjoys this too. Cheers~
