League of Legends vs. Monsters (Advice)
« on: July 03, 2013, 12:12:00 PM »
Hey all,

Attached is a lesson that went really well for me this week, a reworking of a Leo Fuchigami lesson I found here on Waygook.

(Link to original version: http://www.waygook.org/index.php?topic=25278.0)

The lesson requires very little explanation. Here's the general idea:

1. Tell/show your students the story of the Monster King and his army.

2. Divide them into teams, and have each team pick a LOL character.

3. Using the slides, teach them how to give advice.

4. Then, start the monster battle. There are two kinds of questions that will come up during the fight. The first type asks students how to defeat a particular kind of monster. Have them advise their character what to do. Example: "Caitlyn should give the werewolf the silver coin." The second type asks monster trivia and is just for fun.

5. After the Monster King is defeated, pass out the worksheet and show the instructions/example slides. I made my worksheet into a contest, though it's of course up to you how you want to sell it.

Hope your students like it.

-Will

PS: Had to take out the sounds to get the email to send. Might wanna put some in...

I tried this today with my really low level boys class and it went over very well.  Thank you for posting it.

This lesson looks fantastic, the animations in it are great. I look forward to try this.

So to be clear, the way you played it was by going around each group asking for a sentence for each monster, or one enemy per team?

Thanks, JT080!

I didn't have teams take turns. It was more of a free for all, with any student being able to raise his hand and answer any question at any time. Also, I didn't allow a single student to answer more than two questions. That way the better and more motivated English speakers, guys whose hands are usually constantly in the air, ended up having to help their classmates to win points.

Hope that helps!

Thanks Will, any chance you could upload the sounds?
