Games for teaching vocabulary from the textbook
« on: August 17, 2013, 01:07:57 PM »
I am teaching at a middle school and I'm using the Ji Hak Sa (지학사) book which say's " Middle School English 2" . I find it difficult to teach them from this book because the Speaking part is almost always the same as the Listening part and both parts are not easy to work with. I know there are lots of bomb games on this site and even a games compendium but I'm having a hard time relating the games to the vocabulary in this book. I guess it is because there really isn't much vocabulary in these books. For those teachers out there who use this book, do you add a lot of vocabulary to the lesson to play games? When I look through the lesson plan thread for this book, which is locked  I don't see very much outside of bomb games or simply repeating the book dialogue. What games are useful for this book? BTW I don't care if you recommend a game from this site, another site, an e-book, or a printed book, I just need something.

There is an old thread (locked) and a new one. In that list of "Textbook-based lessons" it's near the bottom.

As for relating Excel games to target vocab, you can just edit the ppt to put in whatever vocab you want.

You can find good ideas and materials tailored to the target vocab in both of those threads. Apart from that, just be creative and think of other fun things you did as a schoolkid. And don't restrict yourself to games only... the occasional worksheet won't hurt.

Bingo games are excellent for vocabulary retention
My first day I watched a few lessons and had my first class which was a Grade 2 class or something like that. I thought every things was great until a kid ddong-chimmed me.
