Hi all
This is my first lesson post but fingers crossed it may be useful to some people! I've used the activities in all of my first grade classes so far this week and they've generally gone down pretty well. I'm so grateful to some of the awesome lessons I've come across on this website and I hope this may be useful to some people too.
A combination of post-summer activities:
1. Word association: First I gave the example of food. I wrote the word 'food' in the middle of the blackboard and elicited related words from students. Then I gave each pair of students a piece of paper, set up a 3 minute bomb timer and gave them the word 'vacation.' The pair with the most words won a candy. I also wrote some of the words on the board afterwards.
2. Summer holiday: I printed out the lyrics to Cliff Richard's summer holiday and changed four of the words (find attached). Students listen a few times and circle the mistakes. Then go over the answers.
3. Find somebody who bingo: I have attached the worksheet. In each box there are various activities I guessed students would have done during the summer. Students form questions from the statements and if another student replies yes they write their name in the box. I didn't do this as a game with a winner, although I sold it as bingo, and it seemed to work pretty well.
My classes have generally only been 40 minutes but you could definitely stretch it out by asking questions about the song. I also think activity 3 could go on a bit longer.
Please feel free to ask questions!
