This is for the Frances Sohn book - but could be used for others with this chapter. It's a bomb game with "don't _____." Includes a link to the You've Been Framed video others posted for last years book.

Thank you for the ppt - Some of my grade 4s were comfortable enough with the phrase using 'Don't' to introduce "No -ing" So have slightly modified previously posted ppt. Thanks again

This is a little animated story I made for whatever the "Don't...." lesson for fourth grade was last year. It's a little odd but my kids really enjoyed it.

I've also included a ppt of different prohibition signs and a template the kids can use to make their own Don't... posters.

Wow, that Mario Game is amazing! I am attaching a small powerpoint that I made to go along with the chant on pg27 for Period 1. I usually show them the words in the chant before letting them listen so they are familiar with it.

Hello!

I've made a very simple intro ppt with some different pictures of signs and things. Just a nice little five minute thing where the students can guess what the picture is telling them. Nothing Earth shattering...but potentially useful for many people...if only to provide a starting point for something better!

Hope it helps someone...I figure with the lack of material for the new books...it's not a bad thing to share anything new and relevant!

Answers are:

I made a quick game using the car race template on here to review saying the key expressions "don't ____" and "no ______ing. I had 2 teams (red car/blue car). For each round, I had 1 student from each team come to the front. Whichever student said the right answer first won the round and their car advanced. It went over pretty well and forced all students to practice.

I thought I'd also upload this practice ppt. It's very very basic - I photographed the flashcards in the back of the textbook which show the different actions (swim, run etc) just to review this vocabulary. Then I used slightly more exciting pictures (which I stole off of someone here in this thread - thank you!) to practise the "Don't...." sentences.

I then did the hidden game I attached in my previous post and to finish off (I only get 20 mins of each lesson), I took the flashcards in the back of the textbook and showed them to the class to review the key sentences, before getting one student on each table to tear out their flashcards in order to play the snatch game. I soon realised that 4th graders are really slow at tearing out flashcards (I only had about 5-7 mins spare of my 20mins after I went through the two powerpoints mentioned above) so for the last class of the day, I placed the flashcards on the stage we have at the front of our classroom and asked for two volunteers. Students had to stamp on the correct card instead. I had the rest of the students gather round and played a "winner stays on" system. I also got another student to call out the sentences, so as to get more of them involved. They seemed to really enjoy it!

A powerpoint presentation to practice the "Don't" rules. I have added in extra rules as my Ss are pretty smart.

I'm going to show my students the first minute of this TV show because it practises imperatives. It's a really old programme from the UK. In case anyone else remembers it!

For the second period of this lesson I'm doing a Charades game with my students. I just found some simple pictures online and printed them out. Then, I break the class into groups of four or five students each. One student draws a picture out of the bag and must do the action in front of the class. The student's group gets the first opportunity to guess the action using the target language "Don't (whatever the action is) here!" If they get it wrong then the rest of the groups have an opportunity to guess the action. Whichever group gets it correct gets a point.

Pretty simple and my students really liked it. Feel free to use the images I found if you don't have time to look on your own.

Hi all,

Here's a worksheet I made for my students to do during the first part of this lesson. It took my kids around 10-15 min to finish and they did it while I was having a speaking test for the previous lesson. It's very basic but is good for helping them practice writing basic negative commands: Don't touch that. Don't run. Don't push. Don't eat. Hope this is helpful!
