Grade 4 Lesson 2 This is my sister (girl jumping rope)
« on: March 21, 2011, 02:14:23 pm »
I didn't see a hyper linked page for this on the Index page for 4th grade, so if I'm mistaken... my apologies.

What's attached?
Vocab and Key-phrase ppt.
Pass the ball practice ppt.

There are 2 PowerPoints. The first is a quick review of family vocabulary. It's mostly a reworked Simpson family PowerPoint that I found over winter break that I thought was perfect. I edited it a little, added some key phrases, and removed some of the slides that didn't pertain to this particular lesson. The second PowerPoint is a Pass the ball game using the key ideas of the lesson. Nothing special, but a good way to introduce the lesson!

This is just a hodgepodge assembly of stuff I found here and on the internet - thank you again Waygook and you too Cultureshock!  The only original contribution here is a quick Kaboom points document and a lesson plan.  Nonetheless, feel free to use and I hope it helps someone out..(I always try to plan more than enough rather than too little so this may provide material for a bit of a second lesson as well).

(You'll need to cut up all the points and terms and put them in separate hats for this to work properly).

What you'll find:

A slightly modified blank family tree worksheet that was pulled off of another thread.
Kaboom Game Slips (also pre-made by another poster) and Point Papers
Lesson Plan for these two activities and what Cultureshock posted above..

I've edited a couple of files and added new pictures from the 4th Grade Dae Gyo (대교) book for Lesson 2 period 1.  Hope this helps.
I'll upload a period 2 file, once I'm finished editing it.

Here are two songs. One is one I have used in the past from Youtube, the other is one I just made in Movie Maker. It is not very fancy, but it is useful/effective.

From Kidzclub: The first is a handout where the kids must cut and paste the names of the family members.
The second is a template to let them make their own family tree

Hey Everyone;

Here is a Ball The Ball and Die game that I used for period 1.  You just need to have a ball and a die (this is also great to explain the difference between die and dice and that die doesn't mean death in this case).  Also just change out the family photos to those of you own.  My kids love it when I include any family photos so if your kids are the same they will love this.

I made this flick game to play for period 2.  I borrowed the Simpsons family ppt idea that someone else posted.  I will include the game board as well as a ppt practicing the titles and explaining how to play the game.

This is a Simpson Family memory game that I used for my class.

There are 2 different slides (in case you need to fill another 5 minutes). Click the boxes to flip them over (remember to flip them face down again).

Enjoy!

This is my family dice game

Print out the cards from the word document and cut them out (I suggest gluing the paper on hard cardboard). Students are divided into teams of 4. Each student will get 1 game card and 6 markers/counters. Each team will get one die(dice).

How you play the game:

Students will rock-off (rock, paper, scissors) to see who will go first.

The students take turns in rolling the die. The numbers on the dice correspond to the boxes on the game card. E.g. 1 = Father, 2 = Mother etc.

After rolling the dice, the student places a marker on the matching box and says "He is my ...." or "She is my ..."
The aim of the game is to fill your entire game card with markers. However if a student rolled a number for which they already have a marker; they must then remove that marker.

Once a student has all 6 boxes they shout "This is my family!" and they get a reward.

You are free to customise the game card. I chose to design it that way to save resources. For my counters, I simply cut out circles of coloured paper.

This is a warm-up activity/game I made called "catch the word" and I used it at the beginning of the class as a warm up and the students have to look at the  screen and figure out the phrase before the words disappear and the students have to raise theirhand if they know the answer. My students realy enjoyed it.

Here's a good H phonics video that I used instead of the book sounds for period 3. I had them list words that started with H before the video and they had a lot of fun doing that, too.
