My kids are not at a high enough level to write so I made up this coloring worksheet with the target language :)

Best for Lesson 4, unit 2.

Used previous PPT and changed it to add more vocab from this lesson.  Students guess the picture asking "Is it a ...?"  Other students answer "Yes it is" or "No it isn't."  Matching game at end with previous unit vocab included.

I try to teach some cultural differences in this class, for example telling the students about a surprise party. This is something they are mostly unfamiliar with.

This is an adapted ppt from a previous poster (thanks!) that includes the vocab from Period 1 only. On the first slide is a link to a 20 second Spongebob clip to introduce the topic. Two slides have some phonics practice, and the last slide has a link to a good version of the Happy Birthday song.

For an activity, I've attached a Word doc with pictures of empty "presents." Cut the paper into four strips, with each student getting one strip of three presents. They must draw a simple present in each of their boxes and cut them out individually. Then all the students get up and mingle, giving each of their presents to a friend and saying the key expressions "Happy birthday. This is for you," and "Thank you."

I don't really have a PowerPoint for this game (it doesn't really need one).  Although, I guess you could make a PowerPoint just for a single slide, for the dialog layout.  But basically, I think it might be fun for the students to play the snowball memory game with this lesson.  Divide the students into several teams, and each student will take turn speaking in a growing dialog with the class:

Student 1:  Happy birthday! This is for you!
Class: Thanks what is it?
Student 1: It's a bike!
=================================
Student 2:  Happy birthday! This is for you!
Class: Thanks what is it?
Student 2: It's a bike and a pen!
=================================
Student 3:  Happy birthday! This is for you!
Class: Thanks what is it?
Student 3: It's a bike, a pen, and a soccer ball!
=================================
and so on...
=================================

Basically, the students in the team keeps continuing until the someone messes up.  Of course, only 1 student in a team, can speak only once per turn (just to keep 1 person from doing all the work).  Each team will get as many points as the length of the correct chain.  So, if the 10 student messes up, the team gets 9 points that turn.

The dialog is fairly simple, and challenges students to remember as many English words as they can.

A quick hidden picture game.....

Nice picture game. I modified it so that the students can also learn about colours. When they say a colour, they can take off blocks of said colour E.g.:

Teacher: "Which blocks do you want to remove?"
Students: "The pink ones!"

Just click a coloured block to remove all blocks of that colour for a particular slide. Then see if they can guess the picture. I moved the pictures around a bit, too, so that removing middle blocks won't always give them the answer straight away, and should keep things fresh for the duration of the game. You can use a points-based system too, if that helps motivate the students. Start at, say, 3 points after the first blocks are removed, then 2 points, then 1 point...you get the idea.

Gr 3, Ch 4 of my book is happy mother's day. I think introduction of the concept is also good. Because there is no Mother's day in Korea. Also, it is good time to introduce some American holidays to Ss.

My thanks to @hien_t and @wanalee32.  I used both of their materials from this thread.  In fact I combined both into one lesson with some extra slides.

Included is siren3.wav (for some reason when I copy or move a ppt it usually loses it's mp3/wav embeds and I have to link them).  It is meant to be an automatic sound on the 'attention please' slide (place off the slide it itself so you don't see the yellow speaker).

Available in pptx & ppt format.

I am often amazed at how much more capability and enthusiasm for science there is among elementary school youngsters than among college students.

Just as a helping hint for those who have limited time to get a game together.

Try musical chairs.

The twist on playing for me is that there is a chair for every student and I don't take any away. Thus less shoving happens, nobody cries, and everybody has an equal opportunity to speak the entire game. The kids already feel like it is penalty to sit next to those who are not their friends and everyone enjoys not being the person who is scrambling to find an open seat at the end.

Instead at the end of the music I roll a dice and we count off one by one. If the numbver the student counts off is also the number rolled they must stand. Once every student has counted off (giving everybody a chance to speak) the students standing engage in a target language. (Happy Birthday. This is for you. Thank you.  And repeat with the next student.)

The students warm up to the conversation after the second roll or so and start giving the target language quickly and without prompting.  The kicker is rolling a one (sometimes purposefully at the end). Everybody talks.

It works marvelously and it's easy to give instructions for without using Korean! And is easy to recycle for other target phrases. It also a chance to sneak in a song you want them to memorize (book or otherwise). Thus English is practice the entire game by every student.

It was great help! In my case, I practiced my students with the vocabulary before actual game.
And they really enjoyed the game. Maybe I didn't have to cover the vocab .. haha
Thanks!

I had my students make birthday cards in class! They had to put who the bday card was for and who it was from. They could draw whatever they wanted on it. Before we did this we went over the different types of things that you see at a birthday party. I wrote a list of the things that they said on the whiteboard. Once they were done, they could give the card to somoene in the class and say the key words from the chapter "Happy Birthday, this is for you". They really liked the fact that they got to colour and create a card.

Matching game to practice key phrases from the lesson, and phrases from a previous lesson.

I had them play the game in 3 teams, so I number off each student, and so S1 would pick a number, and I'd ask the whole team "What's this?" and they answer "It's a ____", then S2 would pick the second number, and I'd ask "Is it a ____?" and they either answer "Yes, it is." or "No, it isn't."

Vocab words:
doll
teddy bear
robot
present
surprise
birthday party
