'Wargame' Template
« on: December 04, 2013, 04:32:54 PM »
I just finished up a new game template - it follows the basic 'bomb game' template, but instead of points teams are awarded ammo, and then get to blow up the opposing armies. It still needs some playtesting, but otherwise is good to go.

Here's some of the basics:
There are 3 teams (if your class have more groups, just put 2 groups into a team and let them cooperate).

Each Army has 5 men, 3 tanks, and 1 plane.

Bullets are used against soldiers
Tank shells against tanks
Missiles against Aircraft.

At the start of the game, allow one round of questions, each team answering a question and gathering ammo. When a question is answered correctly, just click in the appropriate spot on each team's 'ammunition' counter one the battle map. Click again to make them disappear when used.
Once all three teams have gone, then  have a 'combat' round, where each team gets to spend their ammunition against the other 2 in turn, or choose to do nothing. One team could just stockpile ammo as a threat, for example.

Anyway, I'm sure you guys can improvise your own rules if need be.

This looks awesome!

I think I may be missing how I'm supposed to add army men back to the map, though. I can see how to add tanks, but there doesn't seem to be a link for guys.

This is a nice, well designed, game.
I like it's simplicity.
I'm definitely going to tinker with it and try it out at some point with the boys.

Ill let you know if there is anything I can recommend to change.

Thanks for posting!

This is innovative. I don't really have time to 100% look it over but its so simple and small it seems really good at first impression.

I like the ammo hoarding idea... I could see my students strategically holding onto ammo.

Awesome! Can't wait to try it!

As Paul_and_Katie mentioned, the trigger to add the soldiers doesn't seem to be working. Otherwise, seems to work great.

Thank you so much!

About the soldier trigger - the little man icon itself is a separate object over the button, you kinda have to click to the side to get the dudes to appear. It works, but it's tricky...

Did a new Advance Wars come out??

Actually I made all the sprites and everything myself, they were initially meant for a totally different project, but it never got off the ground, so I had all of these assets lying around. The only things from elsewhere are the explosions, which are from Metal Slug and and sounds effects, which are from Red Alert. Other than that, everything else is mine.

Really? Great job.

I'm totally stealing those explosions later =D

I made an updated version of the template after I had some trouble inserting images into the question boxes without screwing up the animations - here's an update. If you want an image, just right-click the little green box in the upper right of the question box and select 'change image' to whatever picture you've already got saved, and it will preserve all the animations.

Pushing this game to the top. It's worth it!

I did some new rules to the game, and my middle-school boys have been eating it up.

Rules:
-The aircraft/drop ship brings men and tanks. Once it gets blown up, you can only steal troops or tanks.
-Extra troops or tanks won are "reinforcements" to be used when the others get blown away (I keep track of everything on the chalkboard)
-The team with the most troops and tanks at the end wins.
-I roll a digital die when teams attack other teams. Roll a 1 or 3 or 5 and it's a hit. Roll a 2 or 4 or 6 and it's a miss.

Careful with clicking during the game. I erased a heated game on accident... but thank Buddha I kept track of troops and tanks on the board :) The kids love this game.

Fantastic game, thanks!

I hope you come back to the project as a computer game. Destructible landscape? It looks really funl!

There were two rewards in the PPT I couldn't figure out how to use -- gaining soldiers (I can gain tanks with the button but not soldiers), and the nuclear symbol. Are these implemented?

The soldiers can be re-triggered but it's hard to find the button.
Just click the top left corner of the soldier icon to appear (see attached pic)

Also to stop accidentally clicking off the battle screen:

Go to the transitions menu(전환) and make sure the 마우스를 클릭할 때 button is clicked off.
This will stop the slide from progressing to the next in-case your fingers slip!
(you can still move to the next slide by pressing the  -> arrow button)

See photo attached to see where the soldier triggers are and which box to un-click.
