got the idea to do this from another poster but i made my own powerpoint.

in this lesson you teach about differences in politeness in korea and your own country and then the students do skits demonstrating what is polite and impolite.

i used open office to make this document and presentation because i don't have word on my home computer. you can download open office on the internet for free.

I was really tired this week, so having all the kids get active during this lesson was a chore. I think many of these lessons in the index you don't need to be super interactive, but this one it is a must. I was trying to be less...there, but my kids would get super bored quickly. If you do this lesson, be sure to be there and be active the whole time.

I've been wanted to incorporate some cultural issues into my class, but I'm always nervous about being offensive or off target. Has anyone ever run into those kinds of issues?

I'm gonna try this out next week with my all boys high school. I think they will enjoy something like this. One thing I might add is to get them to creatively apply their newly gained "politeness" knowledge and make a comic strip (or fill in an existing comic strip) using one of the events from the lesson and have the characters say polite things. If there is time, I wanna let them do an impolite version as well....but I think we all know that can become a little out of hand with Korean boys.  ;)

I teach at a co-ed high school and i have found that the boys are quite clever and often sarcastic which is great, but i think they need to be taught about what is appropriate for westerners. Some of their comments are quite offensive! The girls are a dream with this though!
