Space Winter Camp - Grade 3/4/5/6
« on: January 08, 2014, 10:27:30 AM »
Here is my Space Winter Camp.  My camp was from 9 till 1 with 2 ten minute breaks.  I have attached the lesson plan for this which should help you understand what each section is for and how it could be run.  The students I taught understood enough for it to be a success.  Ultimately, make it your own!

I used it with grades 5 and 6.  It was also used with grades 3/4, but by the other teacher at my school.  She changed the how long is a year section to naming the planets.

The lifted movie order worksheet I took from someone else on here, otherwise it should all be my own work (other than some of the word search/maze worksheets).  Thank you to them :)

I didn't end up using the UFO hoax section.  I wasn't really that pleased with it and in the end I had enough time not to need it.

Please be careful with the role play that the students don't use any swear words without really understanding what they mean.   A few of mine put them in - correct use of language (just not at school!).

This is great! I'm helping at a summer camp for elementary and am at a loss at what to do since I usually teach middle school. For the game where they are blindfolded, do you have any more info or the 'instructions' ppt for it? It sounds like it could work for 3rd 4th and 5th grades right?

This is probably too late...but...

The space robot game was played from grades 3rd to 6th.  I only taught 5th and 6th, and they found it fairly easy to play and grasp.  They did seem to all know the vocabulary, fairly confidently, before hand which I think made it quite easy.

I'm not sure now what the teacher did with 3/4th grade.  It was possible that she just put the chocolates on the table and they just had to direct a hand, rather than the entire person.

Everything that I created and have is there, no more instructions.  With the right demonstration your students should understand everything.  At least for me, whilst I'm sure a lot of what I said wasn't completely understood, every activity was completed successfully so they understood enough :D

There is a really cool website called http://htwins.net/

it has a very cool section called "Scale of the Universe" that shows the smallest to the largest known things. You can change the language to Korean as well. Everything you click on gives more information. It would be perfect for this camp.
