Grades 1-6: Zip, Zap, Zop
« on: January 09, 2014, 03:18:17 PM »
This is a very easy game, and it should work with any age.

It's called Zip, Zap, Zop.

I'd explain it, but I think this video does a better job.

It's an easy warm-up game. Should take no more than five minutes. But it's a nice way for kids to have fun, get loose, and speak a little English. A little. This game requires next to no English.

But I did type up the game words in large font. "Zap" and "Zip" are semi-useful words to learn. As far as I know, "Zop" has no meaning.

One last note: in the attachment, maybe the picture for "Zip" should be changed to someone zipping up a jacket or something along those lines. I think "zip" meaning "fast" is pretty arbitrary. Also, I colored in the pictures to give the sheet a little more life. I used it for reference when I was explaining the rules.

Hope this works for you. My kids had fun with it   :azn:

How did you split up your classes because doing this game with 30 students seems a bit difficult.

Cool. Maybe after a few trials you could start working in simple phrases for review according to grade level. Could be useful to help automate various high frequency sentences.
"My - name - is - Mina - My - name - is - Sungjae...."
"How's - it - going - How's - it - going...."
"How - was - your - weekend - How - was - your - weekend..."
