Here's a powerpoint on the five professions they mention in the first unit of this lesson (dancer, doctor, nurse, cook and singer). The gender's are mixed (although the lack of photos of male nurses was something of a bugger, and as for the dancers, well let's just hope my school is understanding if they decide to scrutinise my internet history) and there's about 40-odd slides in total. The first ten are ordered to review the jobs and then I mixed them all up.

I'm still learning ppts so it looks pish, but I hope it comes in handy for individual, group or classwide practice.

I've attached a document for a simple game. There are 2 flashcards of the six professions (doctor, nurse, singer, dancer, teacher, cook) in the back of the book that you can print. Put 1 set on the board and divide the class into teams. For each round, each team will get one represenative to stand next to each other and face the board (preferably with pointer sticks/wands). You face the class (so the children facing the board can't see you) and display one of the job flashcards. The entire class must read "He/she is a__________" Upon hearing this the students in the front must race to the corresponding job on the board. The team of the first person there receives a point.

You can expand on this with more jobs. The jobs in this document are probably pretty easy for the kids so maybe you can use in the 1st or 2nd period.

Hey, thank you for the flash cards! Just check ' a police' and perhaps replace it with 'a policeman'. I'm not sure if my pc is cutting off the full word, or if that's how it should be.  ;)

Heres something my co-teacher found. My kids are pretty advanced so I wanted to use this to show other jobs not mentioned in the book. I used it for period 2 but I am sure it can be used anywhere. We go through the slides and I ask them who they are and what they are doing. Usually I throw in a few random questions to keep them talking like "what does the fireman use to put out the fire" or "who does the police officer bring the bad guy to?" For an activity, I printed off the slides and hid them behind my back one by one and give the students hints on what the job is. It worked well... hope this helps!

Here's a Bam Game I made to get the kids practicing the target language 'He's a'..... / 'She's a.....' There are 25 girds and behind six of them are bombs. If your team picks a bomb you're out of the game. Last team left wins.

Here is a speaking/writing activity I made for my class. Teacher should print out (and possibly laminate) the cards and the activity sheet at the end of the document. Each student is randomly given a card and a worksheet. Each student must speak to 5 other students about their person's name/job and record the information on there worksheet.

The dialogue should be something like this (you may want to post it on the board)

Student 1: Hi, what do you do?
Student 2: Hi, I"m ________, I'm a ____________

note: be careful that the students don't just grab each other's cards and copy down the information, make sure that they actually speak the dialogue.

On the first slide of the powerpoint are 12 cards I'll use for charades.
The rest of the powerpoint are the key phrases practice.

Q: Is he/she a ______ (job)?
A: Yes he/she is a ______(job).

(And yes... those are the village people, you're welcome)

Suggestion:

Add a slide after slide #12 - Write on the Slide --

SAY IT TO SIT
(then begin Say it to Sit game)

Teacher goes through the slides, all students must stand up - if the student can make the sentence they raise their hand (I often demonstrate an obnoxious jumping, shouting TEACHER, TEACHER student then tell them NO - that's not what I want, jumping okay, shouting - no). Anyway, students raise their hand, Teacher calls on one, the student makes a sentence and if done correctly they can sit down. Play until all Ss have said one sentence and are sitting down ^^ Easy and quick!
