Grade 4 ch 2 "How old are you?"
« on: April 01, 2011, 12:54:23 pm »
Anybody doing this chapter in the book with the Eiffel tower and statue of Liberty?
I
've looked through the book and it looks pretty lame, I don't think the chapter deserves a whole chapter to itself and really struggling for ideas to stretch it over 6 periods. Any one else doing it have any ideas, please.

I have that book.  It is pretty lame.  I have a couple of powerpoint guessing games that I got last year that I am using.  I was going to make a bomb game but haven't done so yet.

and here is the link to thread from last year that might have some useful stuff

I made a bomb game that would be good to use after the third period since I've put in all of the vocabulary that I could find in the chapter

I'm just glad I'm not the only teacher in Korea using these books - I'll post more stuff as I make it now - just curious do you also teach 3rd grade from the similar book?

I am also teaching from the same 2 books. I replaced the chant with the Genki English "How Old Are You?" (no videos online, but there's a tutorial here)

and that always goes down well because jumping is fun!

I'm using this book too!  for the third lesson i went to mes-english.com and made a board game with the different family members.

we also played a counting game where the students all stand up and they take turns counting out loud.  then i pick a number (usually 5, 10, 15, etc) and on that number they have to cover their mouth or say "mmm" instead of the number, if you get it wrong you sit down and are out, after someone gets it wrong we start back at one.

This book is truly awful

I have started a thread for the next chapter here http://waygook.org/index.php/topic,9139.msg73767.html#msg73767 and I will try and post some files later this afternoon.

Here's a simple PPT I made for practicing the How + adj target language. Nothing fancy or elaborate but the kids enjoyed some of the pictures!

Hello Everyone,

Here is a PPT for "How Old Are You?", part one.  (Age guessing game.)

Students have to look at what each person is doing and guess their age. You can give them points if they guess correctly or near  to the correct age.

Enjoy!

Here is a worksheet with vocabulary, key sentences, listen and speak 1 & 2, Story Time, Bingo game, and a wordsearch. The vocab and key sentences also have the Korean. For homework they must write their vocab and key sentences 3 times. If they did then the next class we can play the bingo game.
Also I have made a New Words PPT. For each slide we practice saying the letter, then the sound it makes, then the new word comes up and we practice saying it. Then the Korean meaning comes up. Then a sentence that the words goes in. But it takes so long that maybe I will take the letters out. And just have the picture, word, korean, and sentence.
Hope you find all this helpful. There are so few resources with this book.
