(대교 Daegyo) Grade 3, Lesson 3 - "Touch Your Nose"
« on: April 01, 2011, 01:42:28 pm »
I thought I'd get this thread started. Attached is a VERY basic introduction ppt covering the vocabulary/key sentences, and the ppt file is picture bingo. I used the picture bingo generator from www.ESLactivities.c om

Sorry about how the file turned out, the website is great for creating the bingo sheets but a little impractical if you want to fit four sheets per A4 page. There are 25 sheets in all.

Hope this helps someone and I'm looking forward to cadging some more resources from the rest of you!

Anna

Thanks for the Bingo sheets anna.rpo!

Here is a lucky wheel game I have made for the class.  It also has some review questions from this last lesson "It's a cat."  In round 1 all the links work but something has happened to my round two so only like five links are showing.  But still that makes 25 questions for the game, so plenty!

Enjoy! :D

You can use this video to help with body parts. Big help if you and the students dance along.

We recently had a monsters theme day for this topic.

1. Watched the "Ahhh! Real Monsters" intro- ยท   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kszbf5n3F9U

Students LOVE this!

2. Monsters PPT

3. Invite 3 students up to the front at a time. One draws from a bag of numbers 1-10, one draws from a colors bag, and one from a body part bag. The three pieces drawn will make up a description such as "5 green feet" and will be written on the white board. As pieces are pulled from the bag, replace numbers and colors, but do not replace body parts. Continue through all parts and then students will draw their own monsters using the descriptions.

Before that video, I showed my students this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_IvedfyVkmM&feature=fvsr

It goes over head, shoulders, knees, toes, eyes, ears, mouth and nose. I made the kids stand up and we danced to the song. I also played Simon says with the kids. They loved it!

For body parts, these songs are great for kids to learn as a motivation in the beginning of class!

The hokey pokey is a good idea! My kids would love that!!

For the second part of the lesson, I taught them BOTH Simon Says and Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes (both of which Korean children know anyway) and they loved it!

Similar to the monsters idea. I had students in groups of 4, each had a picture (attached, use the last 4 pictures). I would say draw one "BIG ear"  then have the students pass the paper clockwise. At the end each student draws one body part on each picture and the result is a Picasso creation. The kids really loved seeing how each of their characters turned out!

A game I played for this topic before:

divide class into 3 groups, have 3 circles on the board (faces).
get a die, and let one person come up and throw the die:
If a 1 is rolled....hair
2 eyes, ears, mouth, nose, and maybe teeth.

The faces will have three noses etc. The team that gets all body parts 1st wins.
Kids love it!

The Introduction PPT has an incorrect Korean definition.  For "close", the Korean was written out as 가까운, which means close to something (distance).  For instructing kids to close their  mouth, the Korean should be 닫다.  Please be aware of this change before using this ppt in classes, thanks.

There's a clip at 4:40 of Bicentennial Man (he gets a face) that students might like.  Point outs other parts as well.

Here is an easy song that the kids seem to enjoy singing. Its easy to start the class with and also good for quieting them down if it gets to loud.

Here is a song that had my students act like puppets, and remember the phrases: "touch your head" and "touch your shoulders".  very cute.  THe song is by Peter Weatherall, The Body Song.

Here are lesson plans I've made for the first two lessons of Unit 3: Touch Your Nose.  Some schools' admin request to see these so thought I'd save some people the trouble of doing them!  Hope they help!

KCan04 - thank you so much for the Lucky Wheel Game, just used it with my kids and they loved it. They're very low level so it was great to practice the names of the animals/objects as well. Much appreciated!
