How to Teach English in Korea

Covering co-teaching (its theory and practice) and Korean schools, life and culture, this is a very useful guide released by EPIK and NIIED (available also on EPIK's website under "What's New, no. 137").

Thanks Dayle, this is extremely useful. I think I might print this off and have a thorough read through it.

Not sure how I missed this back in August. Thanks for your "thanks" ErinMcGrail11978 and giving this post a bump...and, of course, mucho thanks to Dayle as well. I've been here for a few years now so I'm not sure if I'll encounter anything new but I'm sure it's an interesting and thought-provoking read...Cheers~

@Cranberryopah, you're welcome :) I think the essays on EPIK's website that have been written about teaching English and living in South Korea (
http://epik.go.kr/
; front page under "experience essays") are also, to borrow Halcyon's words, interesting and thought-provoking.

I found a book called Dr. GEPIK that has been very useful. If you can't find this book though, I would recommend meeting as many experienced NESTs as you can find and get to know them.

there should be a copy of Dr Gepik at your school. Ask your co-teacher.

Thank you very much, but I would like to learn more about what is the best method for teaching middle school students, specifically, kinesthetic methods, auditory or visual.

Thank you very much, I am struggling trying to incorporate a co-teacher into my lessons. I have basically been running the class myself, the co-teacher doesn't even need to be there.

Thanks for this. It is important to read that. And make sure to check the EPIK and GEPIK website.

Yes! I just completed the EPIK orientation! It was so helpful. We got to speak with and hear lectures by the people who contributed to the text and they all had excellent advice.

This is a great resource! My program called GNET has something kinda like this, but it really only focuses on the cultural aspects of Korea. Not teaching.

I think it's great to have a guide that will help teachers new to Korea. Or, a person who is new to teaching in general. Teaching in a new culture can be enjoyable, but also a little difficult at times.

I am in a very rural school and I finding their customs rather difficult. Also, I am the only foreigner in the village of 400.. So its "all eyes on me"
I must admit, the attention is nice :)
