Good for period 1 or 2 I'd imagine (it's a speaking activity).
Just made a simple power point for a "stealing IDs" game. It's a game they taught us in orientation and I was going to use it for this lesson. Rules are all explained in the powerpoint, but it's pretty much a modified telephone game. They introduce themselves to another student and say how they're feeling. That other student "steals their ID" and they say the last student's name and how they're feeling when they introduce themselves to the next student. At the end I was just going to ask some students what their new names and feelings are and ask the original student if that's accurate.
I'm not sure if that's been done for this chapter yet, but I didn't see it here so I'll post this :D (tried to make the cartoons relevant- cartoon network shows are apparently popular so yeah). My coteacher said she would have students make a note of their original answers (for how they're feeling) in their books ahead of time since they'll probably forget by the end of the game.

Edit: I realized that I made a slight mistake in the ppt. I had Pikachu stealing Totoro's ID, but he said "I'm happy" again instead of "I'm tired". I fixed it in this version, sorry if this caused any confusion :( (also, the kids didn't seem to know about the bear show...or at least 2 classes didn't, maybe it's more popular in middle school?)

Car race game using vocab from this lesson. My kids love this game. I used this template created by someone else.

Go Fish instructions using the cards from the back of the book (no prep).  This is definitely the best template I've found for explaining Go Fish, so my thanks to whoever made the original.

I wanted to use an activity that got the kids to speak to each other a little so I made the how are you ppt? I named this the happy game (because it sounded more fun:). Students are given a card and divided into 2 teams. On each team there will be three students who get the sick card. One student from a team (which team goes first is up to you) will stand up. They get three guesses. They have to pick three students and ask 'how are you?'. The objective is to find the three students who are sick. If you don't find all three of the sick students then a student from the other team stands up and asks 3 students from the opposing team.

I also included doctor emotion cards which you need to print out, laminate and cut up.

There's also a sesame street video I found somewhere on waygook and a doraemon bomb which I also found on waygook but updated slightly. There are still a few phrases which aren't really lesson vocabulary so you can change those if you'd like. Hopefully this is helpful :).

Here are a few PPTs I made for lesson 3:
One is for introducing/teaching the new key words/expressions, the next is for reviewing those expressions during the next class period, and then one for more review plus reading practice.
The way I did the reading practice was: I show a slide, students read silently and decide whether the sentence matches the picture or not, but they do not answer until I signal them to. I had them make either an O or X with their hands to show their answer, then everyone reads the sentence together. If X, they tell me the correct sentence for the picture.
Hopefully these will help somebody!

This is a speaking activity I adapted from a ppt I found in an old 5th grade book.

Each student gets a card (I'm sleepy, I'm fine etc.)
Students stand up and ask 'how are you?'
Students need to find people with the same card and make a team.
Next, on the back of the card is a letter. They have to work together to spell a word (e.g F-I-N-E, H-U-N-G-R-Y)
If they're right they get a point :)

It can be tricky altering it based on class numbers so it's a good idea to have a few word combinations prepared so you can change it based on how many students are there.

4th Period
  • Good mornings, review with the ppt including having students raise their hands after forming the Are you~~~? questions
  • Explain the title of the show time story
  • Watch the Disney The Little Matchgirl short
  • Intro the characters from the textbook. Listen to the textbook story. Ask what did you hear? then Listen and repeat.
  • Cloze activity with the story text, listening and going line by line.
  • Listen and repeat or read together again.
  • Some students wanted to act it out so I let a few groups do that.
  • Then Check Up :))

There's also a Word Lotto in the PPT but I didnt have time to get through it.

Cheers!!

Here is a Secret Code game for Period 1 focusing on listening. Say each sentence and student write down the matching number. It helps to review about two or three times before you play and for each slide.

After they read the code there is a GIF that match one of the key expressions. Have one student answer and then repeat as a whole class.

Have fun!
