I created this 'Making Idioms' activity - to give the students an opportunity to really get creative and original.

English Idioms can be so confusing and meaningless sometimes and this exercise will hopefully bring out the humorous side of idiomatic expressions, while engaging the students to think creatively.

The Powerpoint explains how to play, rules and scoring. There are eight expressions.  Allow time for groups to present their best idea each round.

Here is my lesson for Shake a Leg Part 1 and Part 2
You will need a Kakaotalk worksheet for the production.
I showed them an example with a really cool ppt that I will also attach (it is linked into the original ppt) I got it from another person on Waygook. The videos are embedded in the ppt but may not rok for you. But you can just look them up on Youtube

Can you please attach the worksheet? You didn't attach it and I can't find it on waygook anywhere.

This is the second lesson I used for this topic. In my first lesson we learned some idioms and I had the students draw a picture of their favorite idiom. This lesson focuses on the "Have you ever...?" vocab and the frequency (ever, never, once, twice, a few, a lot) vocab.
I start with a review of idioms. I introduce new vocab and have the students practice answering some questions. I then describe the partner activity worksheet, and demonstrate the activity with my coteacher. After the students complete the worksheet, I introduce frequency vocabulary. Students practice answering a few questions using the frequency words. Then students play a game to practice with their groups of 4.
When students finish the game, I ask each group to create new "Have you ever...?" questions. Each group takes a turn asking one of their questions to the class. If students answer yes to the question, they raise their hands, and if they answer no they stand up.

Would you just be able to explain how the kakao production is supposed to work? Thanks!

Here's a simple worksheet I made to go with the Listen & Speak exercises on pages 62 and 63.

My coteacher wants me to teach these sections, so I usually have them write out the activities and speak out loud with a partner. It's a little boring, but it keeps the coteacher happy.

I try to finish these two activities in the first half of the class and then do something a little more engaging in the second half.

Good luck!

I had no idea either, but it seemed like an interesting idea, so I took the idea and incorporated it into my own lesson. I'll post the worksheet:

It took a bloody long time to make, but its based on the previous iPhone version of Kakao (Before they changed the pictures to circles)
The more you know.

One activity I wanted to share is putting students into groups and having them write their own dialogue using idioms.

I did this after covering Listen and Speak and explaining the difference between literal and idiomatic meanings (sticking to "idiom meaning" in class so there's less chance for confusion). I'd write an idiom on the board, ask for the literal meaning, then elicit the idiomatic meaning for each idiom in the book on the first day and for four more of my own on the second (Break a leg, piece of cake, when pigs fly and hit the books).

I introduced the activity by taking them through a dialogue of my own.

A: Have you heard about Baekhyun’s new girlfriend?
B: What?! How do you know?
A: I guess someone didn't zip their lip and let the cat out of the bag.
B: I'm so sad! He was the apple of my eye.

This dialogue was on a PPT but it could also just be written up on the board.  It was particularly effective though with the photo of the EXO member next to it.

Student dialogues had to have at least four idioms and have a minimum of as many sentences as there are students in their group.  They had about 15-20 minutes to prepare while I walked around and offered help.

Most of my students actually had a lot of fun with this and a lot of them got creative.  The next class they all presented their "skits" based on the dialogue they had written.
The class voted on the best skit and the students in that group got stamps.

Attached is the powerpoint I used on Day 1 of the lesson. The last slide introduces the activity for the next class.

I don't teach directly from the text book. I do additional things related to the chapter.
This was over two classes. Part 1 one class and Part 2 the second.
Start explaining what an idiom is. then give the hand outs with just the pictures. In pairs students write what they think the idiom is (describe the picture).
Next with the whole class we go over the correct idiom together.

I have lamented cards with the meanings (second page of the word document). In small groups they put the correct meaning over the picture. I go around and check.

As a whole class we finish the ppt. I drill the idiom and students tell me the meaning. Then I start a sentence and they have to tell me the next part.

Example. "We are late. Come on,"  and students say "shake a leg."

then in pairs they choose 4 idioms and make sentences using those idioms.

It's been going well in my classes.

Here's a hot seat game with some idioms, review vocabulary and other random celebrity/movie/general clues (1 minute to get your player who is sitting on the hot seat (facing away from the screen) to guess the clue - team must describe in English and not say any of the words on the screen).

I only teach the listening and speaking portions from the book, so I spend a lot of time teaching the key phrases that are taught in these sections. I divide my lessons into two weeks, with a power point for each key phrase.

With this lesson, I introduced different idioms and then the key phrases.

This lesson's theme seems to be about expressions or idioms.

Here's an expressions or idioms lesson that I previously adapted to another text book's lesson.  But, it can be used for this too.  Feel free to modify it and merge it with another PPT.

I made a Go Fish game.  There are 13 different questions, 52 cards total, like a normal deck.  Students take turns asking a question from a card.  If the person they ask has the card, they respond "Yes, I've heard about..." if they don't have the card, they say "No, I haven't heard about it." and the first student draws a card from the middle.

Hey guys,
So I have been asked to focus only on the Listen and Speak phrase.  This one is a little difficult as it is really bland and the answer to the questions can be endless.  I also feel that it leaves an open ended option for the learners which leaves them feeling stumped.  So here is my very basic ppt, it's a start, I will most likely spruce it up before I use it, but it is something for whoever wants to work on it.
I found the game online and changed it (I can't remember where - thank you to whoever designed it).  I don't really like this game to be honest, and I will probably end up doing a go fish version of it - I wasn't feeling very creative with this topic.
