As the activity for this lesson, we played a scenario game where the students had to escape from "Zombie Island" using various modes of transport.  It was a big hit with my higher level classes, but the descriptions are a little hard for low level students.  If I were to do it again, I'd probably make a simpler version for C lvl students.

Lesson 1. Powerpoint.

Has lots of pictures. if it doesnt load, let me know
i have also provided a Lesson Vocabulary sheet, which covers the entire book. along with a couple 'choice' vocabulary words (from the book).

**added, week 2, Vocabulary Test.
could be used Before the Story. or after the Story

I made a little worksheet to go with Iamrhart's Vocabulary word list from lesson 1.  Some of the stuff might be a bit too much for my Grade 2's, but I'm trying to set the table early this year.

Here are my insanely easy powerpoints for 'How do you go to school?" and "How long does it take?" I teach very low level girls, so just getting them to speak in English and get involved is the challenge. I supplement my powerpoints with writing on the board, which is why these may seem bare bones, but since they are so basic it will be easy to tailor for your own lessons. The first file has a mini Minesweeper game at the end I took from someone else on this thread (sorry, I forgot who). I will also attach a Price is Right game to go with the "How long does it take" lesson, which I also took from another user. Thank you to everyone!

I've taught the first half of the lesson so far, the how do you go part.  It went over well and I used the minesweeper game and they enjoyed it.
This coming week I will be teaching the how long does it take part.  I'm going to try the battleship game this time and see how they respond to it because I just think its a cool game.  Thanks for the the great stuff!

This is a grammar lesson based on "it rains a lot in my country" I started with a sentence-making drill where students get to make a sentence with different words but same strucure. Then I used the PPT to drill the grammar. Then I had them do the crossword. Next was the back of the crossword sheet which is called a "variation drill". Make teams and give a point if students make a new sentence. There are 1000's of combinations. At the end show a video or play the minesweeper with countries and weather types. My students enjoyed making sentences.

Here's a minecraft bomb game that covers the Listen and Speak 1 and 2 and a bit of the Communication Task.  I have not tried it yet, so check it to make sure it runs, but it *should be good.  You may have to open the "animations" tab on a couple and "remove" the one for the picture so it comes up with the question.
Blessed are the template makers.

Presented up to slide 26 for the first lesson of the unit one. The first activity includes a worksheet, cut into strips, where the kids each get a destination with a mode of transportation,i.e. I get to Busan by bus. Each student had to ask questions in English to find the other student who had the identical strip. After the students found each other we did a brainstorming/drawing activity that is included in the ppt. The second part, and second week, I focus on time, and sentence structure, "It take about _ by _." Students get into groups of four, write how long it takes them to get to school and how. They fold up the paper, shuffle in the middle than take turns reading aloud the sentences, guessing which paper belongs to who. the first student to find their own paper wins. Have one student collect all the papers and make a chart on the board displaying how many students get to school via car and how long it takes... Then go to the ppt to play a game with whiteboards. My school does not have whiteboards so paper is fine. Have the groups make team names and show the displayed images, they must guess how long it takes using a full sentence. Only a full English sentence will win the point!Pulled from the other waygooks :)

Waygook.org has been a lifesaver. Hopefully this might help someone.

Hey here is a worksheet I've been doing on Day 2 to review what they have learned from both parts. Part 1 I got from someone else on here (sorry can't remember but thanks!).  Part 1 they put the transportation in order from fastest to slowest. Part 2 they use the table to answer the question about how long something takes. Part 3, they make their own dialogue or question using the table.

I also attached the ppt I use but it's just a quick review. Most I got from the person who created the top part of the worksheet (thanks again)!

This usually takes about 25 - 30 mins and then I give them a transportation worksheet today after that.

I'm attaching a powerpoint for Lesson 1 that I used for 3 weeks, as well as a board game powerpoint and the board game itself.

Week One:
Went through the powerpoint. I have a sort of "fill-in-the-blank" game in the powerpoint that I use to quiz the students. They write the answers in teams. We then did page 12 and then started Bingo. Instead of giving the students a bingo sheet, I had them write their own bingo cards on a blank paper and then write the words down in the boxes.

Week Two:
Reviewed the first part of the powerpoint. Finished our bingo game. I cut the bingo words and put them in 2 separate cups. The students then pulled out the words from the cups saying, "How do you go to ______?" "I go by ______."
After bingo, we went to the second part of the powerpoint and again did the "fill-in-the-blank" game. Did page 13.

Week Three:
Reviewed the entire powerpoint. Did page 14. Played a board game, which I'm attaching. Made it off a board game site. Rules to the game are in the powerpoint. I also had a Minesweeper game ready just in case we had extra time. Took it from another user in this thread. We never had time for it though.

I had students make a pamphlet about our school in groups of 4. It had to be three pages, have 10 complete sentences, and be colorful. The best pamphlets were sent to NYC to my friend who also teaches middle school. That made them very excited and put a lot of effort into their projects.
