Here is my lesson for the speaking part of this chapter

1. What do you mean?
Explain, examples, elicit responses from students using idioms. Students will either have an idiomatic expression or the meaning and will have to wander the room to find the match.
Page 34 Listen & Speak 1, A, B, C

2. I hate...
Explain, examples, elicit responses from students using phobias. For fun, groups will guess the meaning of the phobia. We can discuss what it means if someone has 'arachnophobia' aka they hate spiders.

3. Page 36 Conversation
Watch the video and complete the activities

4. If time, I made a 'Hot Seat'/'Taboo' game with phobias. Class will describe the thing to one student who has his back to the screen. We can continue discussion about "I Hate..."

Thanks for sharing your lesson Ross. It's really good, must had took you quite a bit of time to make it.
I have a couple of questions.
1) Where did you get the video clip?
2) how did you get some of the pictures on the book to the powerpoint, did you scan and imported it into powerpoint?
Great Job!!

Here's a coin flick activity for 'I hate...'.
The main sheet has both 'I hate' and 'I hate to', whereas the LA sheet just has 'I hate'.

I was wary about playing this with middle school, as I thought it might be a bit too childish for them, but they loved it, especially my LA classes.

Rules are simple, put a coin on the start, flick & sign wherever it lands. If you miss the sheet or
land somewhere already signed, you get nothing. Whoever signs the most wins.
