I made a decipher and matching worksheet for this chapter. I'll probably have the students write the translations for the problems and advice on the back of the sheet to add more time to the activity.

Hi Sgarrrun, so sorry, I don't have my books this weekend either, and I only just saw your post. This unit was on the phrases "What's the matter", "That makes me feel sad", and "Things will be better". I think there was also a part about giving suggestions. Sorry I can't get you the dialogue portion.

For the Speaking section:
A)
A: What's the matter?
B: I got a poor grade
A: You'd better study harder.

Bold part are changed.

1) Susan didn't keep my secret/tell her you're angry
2) I'm late for school again/set your alarm
3) I broke my mom's favorite jar/tell your mom you're sorry

B)
A: I have to wear this cast three more weeks. That makes me sad.
B: Don't be sad. Things will be better.

1) The boy [girl] didn't answer my message.
2) I keep losing things.
3) I'm getting fat, but I can't stop eating.

Hey,
This lesson is a complete canibalization of several different lessons. It's meant for higher level students and has two activities on the end, i used Tori_bird's worksheet (really excellent work btw!) and theres a plan for a fortune teller the students can make, but instead of fortunes its the advice sentences.

Hi skountz

You said you spend 2 weeks on each lesson, what do you do the second week?
I just arrived at my new schools yesterday, in the middle of lesson 2. Its my first time using a textbook and i'm struggling to figure out what to do in week 2

which i start teaching Monday!

Here's a really simple PPT game to use with the Speaking sections of the book. Each question is a problem that the students need to answer with, "You'd better..."

If they find a KABOOM space, they can steal points from another team.

Here's my PPT. It's pretty simple and reviews the key phrases for this chapter and the first conditional. I used a first conditonal worksheet from busyteacher.org to review, and there's a cartoon activity I lifted from another waygook poster for a different lesson, that I modified for this one.

I have to teach these chapters for 6 lessons... same classes twice a week, over three weeks. Lot of time to cover not very much material.

So I started doing PPT BINGO. I have all the full sentences from the Powerpoints on a piece of paper and when a student wins, they have to come read off all 5 sentences.

I have a short "You'd Better" PPT and a longer "That makes me sad" PPT with some filler slides. I tried a few different bingo-card-making websites to randomize the 25 words.

We watch a lot of animations in class, so I did a lesson around the short "Carrot Crazy" from Youtube:

I played it once, then showed them the PPT, introducing the vocabulary. We watched the video 2 more times, putting the events in order, then doing the gapfill before leading up to speaking practice with "what's the matter?" and "you'd better" at the end.

My kids are really low level, so even with vocab introduction it was still a bit over their heads, though they're getting good at the speaking parts.

2nd week I normally do some kind of activity outside of the textbook.

1st chapter I showed animal face off vids
This chapter I used the code ws from someone else and also adapted a ppt about online activities from a previous poster.

I probably could have used a more interactive game though, because the kids were falling asleep the last 15 minutes of class.

Here's part 2 of my lesson

Overview:

-Review Code WS from last class

-B Practice from PPT ( I HATED the "B" practice section because the dialogue is so unrealistic
so I skipped it

-Computer Stuff / Netiquette Rules (adapted materials from a previous poster THANKS!)

- Texting Slang WS (only got to this with my A level classes)

-Create a dialogue with texting slang (had to start this with my A levels in the next class)

**B and C level students didn't get to texting slang and probably for the best, because my A level kids were like "Teacher! Lots of words ! OMG"

** My kids were getting tired once the Computer info rolled around, might have been better to play a game of some kind instead of all those words they had to ***gasp** read.

Introduced the key expressions: A. What's the matter? B. ____(problem)_____ A. Advice: You'd better ______. After introducing the language. I practice with the examples provided in Speak p. 32 both A and Misson. Time permitting, I do the WS made by another poster. Directions for the game are in my ppt as it allows me to explain it to my students quickly and efficiently. Lastly, I made a Yut nori game board. This is the traditional korean game with sticks that you toss as dice. Without the sticks ( you could easily make or buy), this board game might be difficult to use. Using dice would defeat its purpose because than it wouldn't be the korean board game at all. Anyway, I made a game board that allows the students to use the target language based on where they land. My ppt demonstrates the target language elicited by each symbol/problem. ALL your students should know how to play this game. If not, you can easily do a google search, but if you have additional questions maybe I can help clarify. Good luck
