Hi everyone,

I thought I'd post my lesson on here as it's been really well received.

I spend two lessons on each chapter in the book. The first lesson I introduce the theme (I teach all girls middle school so the ppt will be quite fluffy and is filled with photographs to keep my kids engaged so edit as necessary) and then in our second lesson we are going to be making Grass Heads (I'm getting each student to bring a stocking, yogurt cup and decorations and I'm going to supply the grass seeds and we are all going outside to dig up soil).

The kids are super excited and I've never seen them so amped up for an English lesson :)

Hey All

I have question, i hope you can help. On page 57 where it explains how to grow vegetables in a bag, in step 3 should there be an apostrophe after the X (X's)? In my textbook there is no apostrophe, it just Xs, but in the students textbooks there is an apostrophe!
The way i understand it there shouldn't be one, as an apostrophe is used in marking of possessive, in this case there is no possessive.

I did find this in Wikipedia

"The marking by some as plural of written items that are not words established in English orthography (as in P's and Q's). (This is considered incorrect by others; see Use in forming certain plurals. The use of the apostrophe to form plurals of proper words, as in apple’s, banana’s, etc., is universally considered incorrect.)"

but it has only made me more confused. 

Any help clearing up this matter for me would be great!!

Here's my combination lesson for Speak A and B. Thank you again to the previous posters for their work, it heavily influenced what I added to my lesson. I also included a hidden picture game as my teacher wanted more practice for the "I'm good at_____" expression.

Week 1: Start with Listening Test (read 4 words on the slide, the student write down what they hear), do pg 48 - Get Ready. Go through ordinal numbers & instruction words, elicit PBJ instructions, do the worksheet from Tori_Bird, finish pg 48.

Week 2: Start with pg 49 Focus In - go thru ppt examples of Who vs Which. Finish pg 49.
Introduce the Key Expression for the day: "Do you know how to..." and do a couple examples together. Get to the "Make it Rain" example, teaching the vocab "Dope" and "Swag". CHANGE THE PIC OF ME FOR ONE OF YOU. Have a couple students come up to attempt to make it rain. I attached Bermuda Triangle by Zico for the music. Finish up with group pictionary. Divide them into teams, supply them with verb cards and mini whiteboards.

Week 3: Open with a warmer game, or this class will be a little short. I used either Broken Telephone or Heads Up 7 Up (target sentence: I think it was _____ WHO touched my thumb). Then I prompted them through a final set of instructions, one for my boys class, one for my girls glass. Then the activity was writing instructions for the Macarena. I would divide them into groups of 5 -> 4 people watch the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OzV63IRR8BQ (03:17 to end) and then together as a group they had to write the 14 steps for dancing the macarena. The 1 person who did not watch the video had 1 chance to come up to me and read my instructions for guidance. I rewarded groups who finished their instructions and danced it for the class. If you don't want to do the macarena, I have also included in the ppt a chair/circle game thing that is explained in the ppt.

Hey there!  So this chapter has Bette Midler's song "The Rose."  I took the opportunity to make a powerpoint for the song.  The words in white have a fly-in animation.  Try to get your students to guess the word based on the picture.  I try to get the students to guess the word with the help of a hangman game, too.  I might also do a fill in the blank activity with the students for this song.  If anyone has any other ideas for song activities for this song let me know!
