Bingo cards and tabs attached. to make the bingo card more interesting. I made the kids randomly number there cards 1-16. then i had them randomly mark each box with A or B. e.g. 1B, 2A, etc. numbers correspond to the endings for "I enjoy..." found at the bottom of the bingo card. They are the same endings found on the 'Fun with Speaking" page on pages 152-153. A and B refer to two different question endings i used. example: What do you do_______________? A: on the weekends. B. after school.

Circle game. ppt demonstrates how to play. you need to give every student ( i usually hand out paper because they forget otherwise) 1 of the 4 verbs. The last page of the ppt shoes you which verbs are used with the expression 'I enjoy...." you can design the game anyway you want, but the more kids in action the better. if  7-10 kids out of 28 have the verb 'play' on their paper, and the student in the middle says" i enjoy playing basketball" all the kids with the 'play' verb, must find a chair while the students in the middle move out of the middle as well. this always leaves 1-2 students in the middle depending hwo you design the game. this game is a lot of fun and the students always love it. I did this game for lesson 7. Find more information there.

Chapter Eight - Hobbies / Sports / Talent (Choose one and go with it)  *Idioms are also in this chapter but I would have covered it in chapter one.

Yo appreciate it. However, if I can make a suggestion. Instead of picking out and telling us fellow grade 2 book-teachers, seems it would be more helpful/relevant to post something such as a powerpoint or other materials including those themes. Being someone who has already used this book and has lessons for these themes, this would be a more helpful way to contribute to the thread.

This is part 2 of my lesson. I had a lot of time to kill, so I just created a simple worksheet to play Battle Ship in class. It practices "What do you do on ___?" and "I enjoy ___."

The kids and and my coteachers had never heard of battle ship, and it took a fair amount of careful explanation and demonstration playing before my CoT understood me, and I would rate her English as pretty decent. Be sure to take a few minutes beforehand to explain it thoroughly.

I had the kids draw 3x small ships (2 blocks) and 2x large ships (3 blocks) and label each one with a hobby. So the sample dialogue would go: "What do you do on A1?" and then is there is no ship there the answer is "Nothing." but if there is a ship there you answer with "I enjoy listening to music." or whatever the corresponding hobby is. This takes about 20/25min total.

My ppt to facilitate the class is included. It has a minimal pairs warmer.

Whoops!  After closer inspection of the worksheet I realized that there is a type with one of the verbs, so I fixed it. This song is really useful if one wants to teach the passive tense, which is found on pg 161 for the language focus part c.  The passive is the form of the verb be + the past participle.

I made a game for this chapter using a pokemon game template.  My students loved it.  The game took 40 minutes.  Thanks to whoever posted that survey worksheet for this chapter.  We used that worksheet for the last 5 minutes.  It was a good way to conclude the chapter.

My materials for this lesson

Part A - introduced the 'I enjoy...' grammar part, and played the bingo from mirokii above. During the game, I turn off the TV, and have 1 student come to the front and read the sentences on the slides for the others to cross. We did some listening, then played the hobbies hotseat game, using the target language.

Part B - quick review and into the 'Let me...' part. They usually  enjoy the optical illusion pictures. We finished listening up to focus in, did the wordsearch, then depending on whether it was my level A's or level B's, the game was different. Level B's played the hobbies guessing game in the PPT or did pictionary using hobbies, and level A's did the Ink Blot test game posted here http://www.waygook.org/index.php?topic=60864.0. Great for discussion and fun, but not really related to the chapter. They look at the picture and write what they see, getting points for answers that are (a) different from other team's answers and (b) they can explain (more or less) where / what it is they're seeing.

Part C -  review, finish off listening, and play the boardgame. There are four different question / dialog types, depending on where you land (credit to the tempate maker). I printed out the second page of the boardgame with the dialog sheet, and gave one to each group.
