I am responsible for the Listen and Speak sections in the book. I cover pages 90-93. Each lesson covers 2 pages, thus part 1 is for pages 90 and 91 and part 2 is for 92 and 93. I have built in an activity that requires a mini whiteboard, marker and eraser at the end for each lesson. Also for those of you who download at the last minute there are three slides on each lesson that would work better if there was a picture of yourself inserted (not necessary). I have chosen to use the Gorillaz as my theme. So I show the first 2 minutes or so of their Dirty Harry video (found easily on youtube) to explain who they are (but the music video for 19-2000 is also a good one). Lastly I have a small music clip for part 2 (it is not necessary but improves one slide).

Listen & Speak 1

I am uploading my PowerPoint presentation and 2 activities.

The key phrase is to express annoyance. I found an interesting book that illustrates basic tips for people visiting NYC. As a native New Yorker myself, I found this book to be 100% true! Most of the tips are based off of common annoyances New Yorkers have. I thought it would be a great way to illustrate the key phrase, "I can't stand..." and the book images are animated too.

Check out some here: https://www.google.com/search?q=nyc+tips+and+etiquette+book&safe=active&biw=1280&bih=865&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0CAYQ_AUoAWoVChMI5-vW_9WQxgIVpeamCh3UdgCL#imgrc=_

Activity 1
The first activity (on the second page of the Lesson 5_G2.docx file) is good for higher level students. They have to write down a topic and what annoys them relating to that topic. Then go around the classroom and see if other students agree with them
For example:
Topic: Subway
"I can't stand people that don't share the seats!"
Topic: Bathroom
"I can't stand people that don't flush the toilet!"

Activity 2
The second activity (theYouTube Activity file) is good for any level. The students watch a YouTube video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2olqD2L9xXw) and write down as many annoyances using the key phrase, "I can't stand people that...".
This video is extremely accurate on what annoys New Yorkers on the subway. The students found it very entertaining and I muted a certain part of the video that would be questionable for students because I wouldn't I want to explain what it is.

I showed the video 3 times. The first time, for gist. The second time, in groups of 4 or 5 so the students can work together writing down as many annoyances as possible using the worksheet. The third time, I played the video at a slower speed (only on YouTube) with no sound, so they could read the captions.

If you do not have to teach from the textbook, I think both activities would be good for an entire lesson. Last year, my students worked in groups creating posters of things that annoyed them based on the answers they wrote on the worksheet (on the second page of the Lesson 5_G2.docx file). I uploaded an example of the poster I made for students.

Hi Cinnamoroll.Chacha!

I use your lessons all the time, thanks so much! For this lesson I re-edited the subway video to remove any questional parts whatsoever. It's a little choppy but I tend to zone out while watching the same video for the 10th time and didn't want to have to remember to pause it.
