Let's Travel The World
« on: April 07, 2011, 10:09:13 AM »
My students are quite low, so I find they respond well to simple sentence structure and engaging relia such as photos and props.  Getting students excited and talking about travelling to places they want to visit was my favourite part of this lesson.  The video, "Where The Hell Is Matt" is inspiring, and keep students captivated.

For the game part of the lesson, I photocopied the front of a Korean passport and handed 1 passport out to each team.  For the team who can raise their hand first and complete a full sentence based on the slide, such as; "I would like to travel to...Egypt". or "I would like to go see...camels in the desert"  They will receive an 'immigration stamp' from that place/country.

For my 5th graders, I put together a ppt highlighting some stereotypical differences between the US and South Korea.  then I had them work in groups and use a venn diagram to think of every vocab word they could about the two countries.  It worked out ok, they had to read off their words and see which team had the most words for a piece of candy

!) heres a game template Im using for my winter camp, which is all about traveling the world. Its a hit with my kids from all grade levels. My grade 3 lower levels really get into it because points can come and go really easy. Its a great review/ time filler game and you can change the questions to whatever you want. I hope it helps you!

2) I grabbed this template from Daejeon a while back. My boys love angry birds. Simple template to work with, just make sure you activate Active-X on Powerpoint
