A simple game to get them using the phrase, 'i can' - Students sit in a circle, and one person, perhaps the teacher to start off, makes a simple 'i can' statement - the students who can do it, stand up and change places. You must remove one chair, so that the last person to find a place, must then make an 'I can' statement and so on - super fun starter or review activity. You can make it richer, by eliciting the question, or making students respond to the statement or question~

seems like a fun lesson to do my "Monkey Game"

one S comes up to the front and is the monkey.  Other students raise their hand and speak one target sentence (I can ___.).  The monkey will act it out.

Then I choose a 2nd S to give me a sentence and the monkey must act out BOTH simultaneously.  So if the first student said "I can swim" and the second student said "I can sing" then the monkey has to sing and swim at the same time.

Some Ss really like being the monkey and some Ss really like trying to embarrass their classmates.  When I did it with my 4th graders using command style sentences, they made a lot of funny ones like "take off your sock" and then the next student said "smell your sock"

A great song for this lesson, and a matching powerpoint that reviews the song, then teaches new words. It's followed by a hot seat game as well as a missing picture game.

These powerpoints started from somewhere else, I grabbed and mashed them together and changed a lot of the pictures to fit an Infinity Challenge theme, somewhat.

Can you? writing worksheet for a low reading level.
Make sure you write in the verbs, and examples, with a pencil before photocopying (I can't figure out how to put tracing text on handwriting lines with the computer so i do it manually-- if anyone knows how, please let me know!)
you should write in "yes, I can", "No, I can't", "swim", "can you swim?", etc. For the first one I write the whole sentence, for successive ones I leave out words for them to fill in the gaps, the last ones they write the whole sentence themselves.

A 3rd grade magic gourd game. Reviews lessons 1,2,4,5(sorry we skip around a bit). I checked for errors but you should probably check it again. Thanks for all your posts.

눈치게임 (nunchi game) based on this video:
and the software. I think it's a popular game in elementary for other subjects. There are different versions, but for this we used 3 teams - each team has a turn in succession. The number in the corner is how many students must stand up all at once (on my count) and shout/recite the sentence on the slide. The powerpoint is endless so you can just keep going around, but you'll wanna skip one after the first round if you have three teams to mix it up. The star means EVERYONE must stand and say it together.

This a worksheet that I use through-out this lesson.  (I use a form of this worksheet for all of the lessons/grades I teach).

The power-point is the one from the CD, I just added a few extra words.

*As, I was reviewing the printed version, I noticed that I didn't change the lesson name.
Also, the matching activity on the second page, skate is listed twice.

The second worksheet attached, I will use for the third period, Literacy Time.
