This is a game i'm going to play with my 3rd graders using school supply flashcards - pictures and words.
Print the cards and cut them up, and then mix them up so that the picture and word are separated. I will then distribute the cards randomly to the students (i have a very small class, but it would work with duplicates too). The students must then find the counterpart to their card, by mingling and asking, 'Do you have a....' - if the student does have the card, they say, 'Yes, i have a ....' but 'No, sorry, i dont.' if they dont have it. Before the students ask the question they should play 'rock, paper, scissors' to pick who asks first. If the student does have the flashcard they're looking for, and asks first, the student gets to keep it. The student with the most pairs of cards at the end is the winner!
Flashcards come from havefunteaching.com but you could use any flash cards of the right vocab.

This song has "Do you have?" questions in it. I've not used it yet so I don't know how well it will go down.

The game for period 2 is really terrible, so I changed it for my own. This is also a card game. I call it "surprise."

Attached to this post are a set of cards to play the game with. I included a lot of duplicates so each student could get more speaking practice and so there were more cards to make the game run smoothly.

Print / laminate them and cut for use.

How to play:
  • Place students in groups of 4 or more.
  • Put the set of cards face down in the middle of the desk/floor (wherever you are playing)
  • Have the students play rock/paper/scissors to see who goes first.
  • One student will draw the top card from the deck and they must correctly say the word/ phrase. If they are correct, they can keep that card and set it aside in their own pile.
  • Then the next student can go and do the same....and so on.
  • When a student draws one of the "surprise" cards, they must put all of the cards they have obtained back into the main deck. (They place them at the bottom of the deck along with the surprise card).

Since everyone WILL get a surprise card and lose their cards eventually, the game pretty much goes on as long as you want it to. Whoever has the most cards at the end of the allowed game time is the winner.

The kids LOVED this game. They always tried to guess who was going to get the surprise card and lose all of their cards. I will probably add more cards and phrases to this as we get further in this chapter.

Okay, I've got in to the swing of this unit a little more now, and here are the rest of the materials I will use for this lesson.

I will use this in conjunction with a worksheet that the students can use to point to the different words while they singalong. Then I will use a ppt that they can take turns standing at the front of the class pointing and singing.

I will also use the storybots T and W song but I don't think I will have time for a singalong, so I didn't make any worksheets or ppts to go with them.

I also made a listening worksheet to go with the class theater. Students can then use this for the class theater if they aren't able to learn all their lines. 3 scripts to a sheet.

We decided to go with making birthday cards for the second lesson. I'm having them make them for my brother and mother, since they both have birthdays coming up next month.

"Happy Birthday" will be written on the front, and "This is for you:" written on the inside. They can then draw a picture, then decorate the card. I will collect them and (maybe) send them to my family.

Jaelen's surprise game is awesome.  I already finished most of this lesson, but will definitely use it for review later on.

Here is a coloring page that I made to practice A, T, and W phonics.

The teacher will say the name of the item in each picture.  Students listen for the first letter sound, and then color it according to the first letter sound.

Pororo Bomb Game

A little different than normal. Students listen to a sound effect then guess the noun.

Target sentence: "Do you have a ______?"

**Edit: Some of the sound files didn't work when I used this on another computer. Attached is a copy of all the sound files in case that happens.

The ones that might need a slight alteration are:
bee / duck / sword / train / drum / airplane / door / toilet / cat / dog
Simply unzip the file, delete the sound effect on the slide and put it in again. Easy.

Here's a pororo game based on the one by aquariemn.

I couldn't get his to open in 2010 and when I converted it to a 2010-compatible version, the scoreboard disappeared, so this is an edited from his to make it run in 2010 plus a couple slides that got changed here and there as I liked. And I've added sounds that I swapped out into the zip file (though it seems to play them fine with them not on the computer).

I made this pass the ball game but it's a "Pass the Present game".
I got a small present box from the store and filled it with pictures of items and and stuck those pictures to lollipops. Because I controlled the music I made sure everyone got a lollipop!
