I also made this little script review powerpoint. The kids liked getting to 'be' Pikachu and read his lines etc.

For the 3rd period I made this short powerpoint for A,T,W letters and reviewing the items.

I also have a guess the picture review for the items.

I also played a game where I printed cards that said " I have (a pencil) do you have (a doll)" then the person with the corresponding card would stand up and say "I have (a doll) do you have (2 rulers)" and this went on till we went round the whole class. My class is pretty low level so I put pictures of the items on the cards instead because they can't read very well. You can time the class and make them go round again to see if they can beat their original time.

AVENGERS pass the ball!!! With awesome gifs! Should be a real treat.

Cheers to the original creator. I tweaked it to suit this lesson.

Lessons 1-7 Review Game - Surprise
« Reply #24 on: July 07, 2015, 07:04:17 PM »
The game for period 2 is really terrible, so I changed it for my own. This is also a card game. I call it "surprise."

Attached to this post are a set of cards to play the game with. I included a lot of duplicates so each student could get more speaking practice and so there were more cards to make the game run smoothly.

Print / laminate them and cut for use.

How to play:
  • Place students in groups of 4 or more.
  • Put the set of cards face down in the middle of the desk/floor (wherever you are playing)
  • Have the students play rock/paper/scissors to see who goes first.
  • One student will draw the top card from the deck and they must correctly say the word/ phrase. If they are correct, they can keep that card and set it aside in their own pile.
  • Then the next student can go and do the same....and so on.
  • When a student draws one of the "surprise" cards, they must put all of the cards they have obtained back into the main deck. (They place them at the bottom of the deck along with the surprise card).

Since everyone WILL get a surprise card and lose their cards eventually, the game pretty much goes on as long as you want it to. Whoever has the most cards at the end of the allowed game time is the winner.

The kids LOVED this game. They always tried to guess who was going to get the surprise card and lose all of their cards. I will probably add more cards and phrases to this as we get further in this chapter.

Thanks so much for this game idea.

I decided to expand this to cover Lessons 1-7 (I'm using the Cheonjae textbook at most of my schools but it's similar vocab anyway). I took screenshots from the CDRom to match the vocab and my co-teacher provided the Korean translation.

Students loved it by the way! :)

A short review, and a matching game. Different pictures for the matching pairs.

And a writing worksheet for Aa Tt Ww, and practicing the full alphabet.

confusedsafferinkorea - thanks for the vocab/key expressions ppt.
One thing though, it is never 'Do you have A scissors?', just 'Do you have scissors?'

Made this game to practice hearing/identifying phonics.

1. PPT. Teacher says the name of the picture and students must decide which letter the word starts with.

2. Tic tac toe. I drew a tic-tac-toe (noughts and crosses) board over some writing lines. Instead of being 'O' or 'X' students pick a letter and must compete against each other by writing the letter. (eg Tt vs. Aa)
(I laminated the boards)

Update

I added a Spy Game for period 5.

How to play: The kids play in groups. A "spy team" leaves while I hide the items among the students. They spy team comes back in. They have to use the dialogue to find the items. I give them about a 1:30 to find all the items, but I think I'll give them 4 instead of 6 items for the next class.

They seemed to really like it, but just watch out for them not using the dialogue. Also, don't have them hide it in their desk. They'll be able to see. My co-teacher had the kids hide it in their books, and everyone closed their book after.

Trading Cards Game

I used the graphics from Jaelin in the ppt.

I took the game from someone who posted this in the 5th grade YBM thread. I simplified the instructions so 3rd graders can understand.

How to play - Each student gets a card. White card has to meet a green card. The pair say the dialogue, switch, then repeat. Times up. Sit down. Pick 1-2 cards for winners. Repeat the process for round 2. It's a really simple game, but good for repetition and still fun.

I made a simple board game to practice speaking. We did this during the first class of the lesson. It's a super simple board game, but the students were really into it.
