Has anyone started the grade 2 book, the first lesson: "The new school year"?

Yes, I started, "The New School Year".  I did not use the text book, but did a game with them that I borrowed from another website called, "Secret Code".  I did this as an introductory game...if you want more details let me know.

HI GUYS, I just made a board-game using a template found on the internet
Can be used as a review for the second graders
I was planning to blow it up to A3 size and laminate them, and let kids go wild.

You would need dice and make some or buy some pawns/figurine things (i think a shop like Diaso or a stationary shop) would sell something like that for pretty cheap
I would also go over the topic's vocab and dialouge you would of been teaching them before playing this...
as well as doing a worksheet....or have a competition to see which group could remember all the dialogue you have taught them

Here is a lesson specifically for Listen and Talk 2: Hopes for the Year. 

First, I will do the listening section (as requested by my coteacher). 

Then, students will practice the dialogue at the bottom of page 15 with their partners (which is also on the powerpoint).  The example hopes will then be covered up and the class will talk about some different things that they can hope for this year using the ppt. 

Then, with their partners (or in groups), they will create a poster following the model on the second to last slide.  Lastly, they will present their posters using the dialogue model.

I had my kids play this game at the end of class (after doing some speaking exercises and a couple things from the activity book). I didn't make the template; one of my co-teachers gave me a folder full of activities, so kudos to whoever designed it.

The last column is trivia about me, so you'll need to change that. I just couldn't think of another category from the chapter.

I used this for both my A and B classes (about 40 kids per class) by having them split into 3 teams, each with a team captain. It was easy for the A classes, and okay for the B classes.

Each group seemed to enjoy it, but I would not recommend playing it for more than about 12 minutes, because both you and the students will get bored.

This a PPT introduction for the idea Hopes for this year.

It has some pictures which refer to the phrases in the books, the student can try to work out the answers from the pictures.

I start the lesson with this before playing a matching game and asking the students for their own ideas.

My students really loved the games!
