Does anyone else feel like teaching may I vs. can I is a load of rubbish? Only douchebags say or correct people that use "can I" when "may I?" is deemed correct. If a student asks if they can go to the bathroom are you really going to make them say "May I go to the bathroom?" As long as the meaning comes across thanks to context, "Can I?" is sufficient and appropriate. May we skip this nonsensical lesson? Yes we may. Nobody really talks like this.
I began the lesson by writing the following words on the board : IngredientsUtensilsRecipePreparation TimeI asked the students to define each word. Thereafter we watched a video of Mr Bean making a sandwich, after the video we spoke about the ingredients and utensils that he used and we answered comprehension questions based on the video. After checking answers and offering feedback I gave each group a recipe, all the steps were mixed up so the students had to place them in the correct order and then report to the entire class.
