Here's the lesson i've used twice now. It's best for advanced or intermediate students, or if you have a competent co-teacher to work with you. I'm required to teach the book so it features somewhat prominently in my lesson plan and makes the flow a little less smooth than i'd like but *shrugs* you do what you can.
i explained to the students we'll be talking about future plans this week and then next week we'll be talking about volunteering.
Warmed up by asking students if they have plans for this weekend?Summer?Evening?
Transition to Listen 1, Challenge, and work book page. CCQ and Call respond with the dialogue. Play through Talk 1 and handed out the worksheet while they were doing the listening. I have students work in groups of six to fill out the sheet. The teams sheets are color coded with little symbols i drew in crayon at the top. I explain that each team needs to fill out all of their sheet and be sitting down again to win. However they cannot talk to members of their own team, so if someone sees a blue talking to a blue they call me over and Blue team forfeits the game. students must get a different person to answer and sign each box. at least one box must be signed by me. Winning team gets to choose a 5 minute video from youtube to play before class next week.
Wrap up and return attention to the book work through Listen 2 and the challenge. Talk about the Idiom can you give me a hand. I throw in a personal story about a time i spun out in my car and needed help getting it out of a ditch. keeps their attention and gives them some more context beyond what is in Talk 2. play talk 2. If you have a great class get them to give examples of times they've needed help.
here i shift the topic toward setting Goals we work through the "letter to future self" worksheet together slowly. this ends up taking the rest of the class usually and is the part where a co-teacher is valuable if you've got lower level kids. I make sure they understand the concept of a goal and have them list 3. 1 they can finish before the end of the year, 1 they can finish before july 21st (semesters end for us) and 1 they can finish at a time of their choosing. I throw up a few of my own personal goals for examples and have them get to work. Then we work on reasons for the goals, finally 1 obstacle they might have to overcome and How to do it. To wrap up i have them write a letter to their future selves that i will return at semesters end.

The PPT is nothing special, you could do without it. I assign group seating most weeks and have the kids get into groups before i begin class, the slide is primarily to let them know Not to do that this week since it's an exception. the other slide is just a place holder and the final an example for the letter.
