Made a Birthday Song and changed the game a little from the book:

LISTEN AND PLAY ACTIVITY:  One student (student #1) goes outside. Another student (student #2) is chosen as the secret birthday student. #1 comes back and all students sing "Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday, Birthday to you." They sing louder if #1 is getting close to #2. If he goes farther away, they sing quieter. When #1 feels he has found #2 he says "Happy Birthday, this is for you." and if correct, #2 says "Thank you." And if wrong, #2 says "No thank you, bye!" And #1 continues. Change students if found quick.

Happy Birthday Song Variation
« Reply #41 on: April 21, 2015, 01:34:01 AM »

This song is a variation of happy birthday. I made some minor changes to the lyrics. I changed "dear" to "to" because I didn't think my kids really understand the word. You can change it to your liking.

Sleeping elephants game (I have very low level and very high level students so have tried to cover all levels - you may need to adjust for your students

I think people were having an issue with the sound in Mr. C's Pass the Present game. I sure did. I think Melanie tried to fix it, but I wound up with a completely different-looking Powerpoint when I downloaded her attachment. I figured out how to add my own sound though, and posted the new version here. I hope it works this time.

This is a PPT to explain the textbook game (basically) for Period 3 Act & Play. It's basically no prep because they use the picture cards from their textbook.  :azn:

Have the students take out the cards from pg. 29. I had them write "From: [name]" and the object (i.e. "cat") on the cards to get some writing practice. However, you can delete that part if you want.

After they prepare the cards, they walk around the room and do RPS - loser gives a "present" to the winner and they say the dialogue. The game can go on basically as long as you want. When time's up, whoever has the most cards is the winner.

You can leave the last slide up to remind them of the dialogue.

Happy teaching!  ;D

This is a PPT review game to review lessons 1-4. Since there is no link for the review, I posted it here. It's a basic telepathy game to review key words and phrases from lessons 1-4. I modified a telepathy game previously posted.

Basically students are divided up into teams of 4 (or 3 or 5), and given a white board, marker and eraser. They choose one word/sentence with their team and write it on the board. They get the points indicated if they are right. Team with the most points at the end is the winner. Some of my higher level students wrote the whole sentence, and lower levels wrote just one word.

My 3rd graders go wild over telepathy games like this. They are all very loud and wild this year (sigh), so I have to be careful about which games I use with them (like pass the ball doesn't work for them this year, they get too wild). They get loud during this game as well, but it's manageable. One issue with this, the screen blinks a bit during the game. I'm not sure why. I think the PPT that I modified did that initially, but I couldn't figure out how to fix it. It doesn't affect game play much. Anyway, enjoy!

There's no link to the review parts of this chapter so I'm posting this here. I hope this helps someone. I used various sources and posts from other Waygookers to make an overall summary of Chapters 1 through 4. I'm not really good at making ppts so maybe you can polish it up for your own use. Thanks to all the peeps who's posts help me put this together.

I'm ending my contract soon, so I thought I'd go ahead and post up the materials I've made/been using for this book. Thank you to everyone whose material I used/adapted. I don't have the time to sort through everything I took/modified from other posters, so if some material is from you, thank you and sorry for reposting. =]

Lesson 4-1
New Words and Expressions. Ppt in English and Korean. Worksheet to go along with it.
Word Shark Hangman.

Lesson 4-2
Connect Four. Divide the class into red team and blue team and play as a class, or print out the black and white version and have them play in pairs.

Lesson 4-3
Alphabet with pictures. I print and cut these out to use on the board.
Alphabet guessing game.
Also use the 'A is for Apple' song that's been posted on here before.

Lesson 4-4
Disappearing Dialogue for class practice and Showtime Script.

Telepathy Game. Students choose a letter or word and have to write it in their notebook. Whoever gets the most points at the end of the game is the winner. Practice for the key letters and words of the lesson.

Introduction of main vocabulary and key sentences! I made this ppt pretty lively.

I included 4 slides from another ppt. I dont know who it is from, but credit to that person for the 4 slides!

1. Speed listening

2. Unlock the bank (safe)
-Students listen to the teachers sentences and tell the teacher the number code.
- It opens the bank door to a gif

3. Find the button
-Students look at the picture and make a sentence.
-teacher clicks on it.
-If the button is behind, click on it and it'll take you to a gif.

I made another version of Pass the Present using Astrokiwi's every song template -- well, the audio files from it.

I also took a couple intro slides from Mr C's but changed the vocab to match the 2nd Period's dialogue.

I changed the game in the book from a group game to a class game. I tried it as a group game last year but it got too chaotic. Will be trying it tomorrow. We have some party hats at my school and some drawstring bags with question marks on them which I will use for the "presents". (Blue hat + blue bag; yellow hat + yellow bag) The cards is from the book and I just used the 8 from my textbook, so no card-prepping necessary. We'll see how it goes!

I made a quick disappearing dialogue PPT for the Showtime/roleplay section for this lesson.

This is my first time to post materials on waygook. Hopefully I don't have too many mistakes. Also there's an audio file of a lady screaming that you can use if you'd like to make the alligator slide a little funnier.
