Hi guys!

I've made a PPT for Grade 1, Unit 5. Let me know what you guys think and feel free to touch it up. I've uploaded both the PPTx and an older version.

All the best.

A fun phone activity for ....page 60...on the phone

Give the students a telephone number pad. With the numbers from the telephone pad they will have to decipher a coded message. You can provide a clue to make it easier. Active example in the PPT

5.1 dates battleship game using February.  I used the language Is your birthday _____.  Yes it is, No, it isn't" as the target language.  My classes liked it.  Instructions are in the powerpoint.

For battleship i used "can you play Feb. _____?" as target language. For my advanced kids told them to change the verb. Worked really well. Thanks for posting it.

For this unit, I review pages 66 (What are you going to do on Friday?) and page 70 (fortune cookies), quickly explain "fortune" and then give examples of fortunes using "You will..." and "You are going to..."  Then, I have the kids write eight sentences using these two forms (four for each) and then we all make those little fortune tellers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paper_fortune_teller) and then have the students write their eight sentences on them.  It takes a full class to do and I give the lower levels several examples to choose from, but they generally enjoy making them.  Give yourself a lot of time as making the fortune teller itself takes 15-20 minutes with boys and 10-15 minutes with girls, or at least it does in my classes.

A lot of material came from other posters; I may have changed some things to suit my students.

I used  "Let's Make a Pinata" for part of my open class this past year. I recorded my middle school students making pinatas by following the steps outlined on pgs 64-65 of the textbook (or activity book pgs 84/89/94) and the video turned out pretty good. I did have to change a couple of parts, like using flour instead of paste since I couldn't find any paste here. I tried to upload the video here but the file size is too big, so I put it on YouTube. (Note: at the beginning of the video, there is a map of Canada, USA, and Mexico. I didn't notice until after editing was complete that the map includes CA, AZ, NM, and TX as part of Mexico. I am especially mortified since I'm from Arizona... Fortunately, no one at my school knows the difference^^).

I'm also attaching a worksheet I gave after the students watched the video. They had to put the steps in order and fill in the blanks. The video + worksheet is a great supplement to Unit 5 and good for killing 20 minutes of class time~ I put a lot of hard work into this one video (for the open class-a.k.a. dog&pony show^^) and didn't want to waste it on just 1 lesson when it can probably be resourceful for other teachers.

Here's the link to the video:

Enjoy!  :)

I thank you for thinking of us--other teachers--when making videos!

You have inspired me to make videos for use in lessons--and to upload them so other teachers can use them!
