The one is an Inventions quiz, and the other is a game where students have to guess whether something is true or not.

I really like your "Are you sure" game Handsome Michael Teacher. If I have time in my class I want to play it, however I have to shove both Listen and Talk 1 and 2 in one class so it's done before midterms :S

@ Michael: The 1988 Seoul Olympics were the third time the Olympics had been held in Asia, not the second. The 1964 Summer Olympics were held in Tokyo, while the 1972 Winter Olympics were held in Sapporo, Japan.

They were, however, the second Summer Olympics held in Asia.

Whoops, didn't think of the winter Olympics.

Just add in "Summer" before Olympics and all should be good.

@ Michael: NP. The change was easy enough to make.

It looks like a really good game, by the way, especially with the questions you posted and the images you used. (The one of the lizard sinking the Titanic cracked me and my co-teacher up.)

Ok - here's how to play the "Are you Sure?" game

Divide the class into about 8 teams.

Give each team a small whiteboard and a board marker.

Each team starts with 3 points.

For each question the Team can write "I'm sure it's true" , "I'm sure it's false" or "I'm not sure"

If their answer matches the question they get a point.

Example: Kimchi is delicious - Answer: False

Teams that wrote False get 1 point. Teams that wrote True get 1 point taken away.
Teams that wrote "I'm not sure" get no points added or taken off.

A bit of a complicated game that requires a good Co-teacher :p

I used the the "Are You Sure" game in a slightly different manner an it worked quite well. We only had about 10 minutes left in which to play it so I had to make it go a bit faster.
(I also don't have mini whiteboards/enough board markers)

We had 2 teams: Boys vs. Girls
They take turns trying to answer a question. Each student gets to vote:

I'm sure it's true = thumbs up
I'm sure it's false = thumbs down
I'm not sure = flat horizontal hand

I gave 3 points for a good answer, 0 for a bad one, and 1 point for saying "I'm not sure"

I don't know about other peoples classrooms but my kids love competing girls vs boys.

Awesome game. I used Handsome Michael's rules but since I have to focus on speaking skills, I asked the teams to say their answers together out loud after having written them on the little whiteboards. It doesn't take that much extra time and it gets them excited to open their mouths and say something.

I was going to do the make your own invention lesson, but I recently had them make menus and as it is usually me flying solo during 40 kid leveled classes, I decided to stick with a powerpoint game and avoid a full mutiny.

I used questions from several of the other powerpoint games and a Madagascar template. Two classes in and the kids have enjoyed it. I tossed out some bonus points for extras like who invented something or when it was invented or the Wright brothers' first names.

Here is my material for the first listen and talk from this chapter. "Are you sure?"

I used the famous invention lesson from waygook to add to this lesson (a lot is not my own). The advanced students design an invention at the end of class (again not my worksheet) , my lower level students are playing the 'Are you sure' game from Someone Else teacher.
