Hey guys!

I made this PPT for Grade 3, Unit 5. It briefly reviews the last unit before moving onto this one. In case it's not long enough to fill up a whole lesson, I also added a game at the end that I thought of, although it might be too complicated for the kids to understand. My classroom is arranged in groups though, so I have a class of 30 with 5 groups of 6. I've changed the layout of my classroom because I feel that the kids can be more productive when seated in a small group than in rows.

Thank you for this helpful lesson! I will be using it in the next week or two and will let you know how it goes. I also prefer my kids to sit in groups rahter than in rows.

Sorry to bother you but could you upload that in an older version of PPT? Yes, I'm a Luddite. I'm working on a girls-based lesson looking at notable Korean women. Unfortunately, there aren't a lot of photos available of some early Korean female pioneers.

Attached, please find an older version of the PPT. Oh! And I did correct one error. One of the slides previously said "I confused" ... which is simply wrong and embarrassing on my part ... I have corrected it to "I'm confused" as it should be. In future, I'll upload both a newer and an older version of PPTs that I have made.

Great ppt, thanks! I've altered the ppt slightly: there were a couple of spelling mistakes on the first couple of slides and i've taken out the slides to do with the textbook because i dont work directly from it but loosely base my lessons around the target language. Instead of the textbook stuff theres a worksheet.

Oh yeah I guess I should post what I made. Here's a handout about the present perfect tense to go with the lesson. Sorry the pics won't copy. There's a pic of two people shaking hands on a deal, some students graduating from uni, someone paying money for something, and two people moving furniture. Easy enough to google for.

The present perfect tense is not that difficult but can look confusing. It uses has / have + the past participle (과거 분사 - pp). You use it to describe things that have already happened.

e.g. Simple present – I go to school.
    Present perfect – I have gone to school.

Change the following from the simple present to the present perfect:

Many people think that girls’ and women’s education in Korea is a new thing. However, even a long time ago some remarkable Korean women were doing some remarkable things with their educations and careers.

1.   Ester Pak: Ester Pak was born in 1876. She graduated from Ewha Girls High School. In 1895 she got married and moved to America where she became a doctor in 1900. She moved back to Korea and traveled around the countryside on a horse treating patients with diseases. She also translated important medical textbooks from English to Korean.

Pretend that it is 1905 and you are Dr. Ester Pak. Write some of the things you have done. Use the verbs (translate / study / be / graduate / marry / travel):

In 1919 she was arrested by the Japanese in the March 1st uprising. She went to China where she learned to fly in 1925. She joined the Chinese Army. Later she helped fight against the Japanese.

This is a simple idea for a running dictation game. I read the story and post the five parts of this story around the English room. Each group has one student who is the writer. Only she is allowed to write. The other students run around the room where they look at one of the parts, try to remember as much as they can, and then run back to tell the writer what to write. It works best in groups of 4 but mine are already in groups of five so I just go with that. The first group to get everything written down correctly gets a little prize. The room gets *very* noisy but if they're screaming in English I'm not complaining.

                       Great People, Great Minds

1.   Dr. Jang Giryeo was born in 1911 in Yongcheon. He decided to become a doctor when he was a high school student. He wanted to take care of poor people who didn’t have enough money to see a doctor.

2.   During the Korean War, he ran away from North Korea and set up a medical center in Busan. After a short time he set up a hospital especially to treat poor people.

3.   If people needed treatment but didn’t have any money, he would pay for their treatment himself. Soon he had used all his money, but he still tried to treat poor patients.

4.   After the war, Dr. Jang continued treating the poor. In 1959, he performed a new kind of operation that saved a patient’s life. Even though he was a doctor, he lived in a small, simple room.

5.   He won an award for all of his good works in 1979. He continued to live at his hospital until he died in 1995. His life was an excellent example of a great person with a great mind.
