Does anyone have an ideas for a good game for Listen and Talk 2, exercise C? My school likes me to keep to the textbook, but the students get so bored with it.  I'm running out ideas to make these exercises into games.  Any ideas would really be appreciated :)

Here's Unit nines lessons. I had to combine the two lessons because my third graders will be having there finals in two weeks.

Katietillett I did see a price is right game on Waygook maybe you can use that and incorporate the game.  I know I won't have time to use it but maybe you can.

A communicative activity I created to practice the dialogue.  Each student needs to buy the two things on their slip of paper for the exact price listed.  They will find the student that can sell them the item by using the dialogue.  As extra incentive to not speak Korean, I gave each student one dollar at the beginning of the activity.  If I heard them speaking Korean at any time during the activity I took their dollar away.  At the end of class if they still had their dollar they could buy a piece of candy from me.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Thanks a lot for the idea. I made a similar activity.

1.) Prezi to introduce the function in focus on page 168 and introduce shopping activity.
http://prezi.com/5th4puq3inae/g3-chapter-9-money-matters/
2.) Brainstorm "winter items" on the blackboard. Write 2-3 adjectives for each (colour, texture, whatever, hopefully the students are creative)
3.) Hand out worksheet for the speaking activity.
worksheet is attached.
4.) Have students choose and describe the two items they will sell in their store, as well as the 6 items they need to buy.
5.) Leave the prezi on the last slide, which is the supporting dialogue for the speaking activity.

I am doing this lesson across two weeks. This past week, we ended up going over some basic money-related vocabulary, talking about whether things are cheap or expensive, and then I used some MasterCard "Priceless" commercials to generate an activity on what "money can't buy". I'm not attaching the vocabulary part of the ppt because I thought it was kind of weak and I'd prefer to do something else with that time in the future. So what's here could probably cover half your lesson. Most of the cheap/expensive slides are from another poster from a thread about other money-related lessons. Sorry I can't remember who you are to give you credit!

The video linked on the first slide is just to engage the students. It's the Simpsons MasterCard commercial, not even in great quality, but hey, they all get excited because it's Homer Simpson. I don't bother trying to break down the language in the video other than to ask what Homer was doing and hopefully elicit "buying stuff".

Then the Expensive/cheap stuff and the slide on "Priceless". Usually after the first two bullets, the students are able to provide some of their own examples of what's priceless, and a lot of them come up with great stuff: Knowledge, Faith, Kindness, etc.  Then we watch some more Priceless commercials. The YouTube video of each commercial is linked to each arrow. There are a bunch here, so I just choose 2-3 that I think are appropriate for the particular group. After watching each commercial, they help me list on the board which things in the commercial money can buy and which thing is priceless.

Finally, they make their own 4-part commercial on paper. I have them fold a paper into four parts, and then follow the pattern: three things money can buy, one thing that is priceless. The goal is to have the first three items relate to the priceless one, but it's a bit hit-or-miss there. They need to write the name in English and the price of each item. I got a lot of pretty basic ones (Book, pencil, comb, love) but there were some interesting ones, too. "Uniform, shoes, hat, my body". "Dog bone, dog clothes, dog house, my dog". "Mp3 player, cell phone, XBox, preventing my vacation from being totally boring". Ideally you can have time then to have some students share their drawings or to discuss them as a class.

Next week we'll be doing more of the conversation stuff, so thanks for the other materials, everyone!

Modified shopping role play worksheets from Bogglesworld.

Is there a shopping list and budget plan to go with the shopping worksheet?

The worksheet says the teacher will give them the shopping list.

Did the prezi move? I'd like to see it.

I use these books and I agree with some of the points written above, my school wants me to stick to the book but I have a speaking exercise which I can play around with, so I did a role-play where I had various cut outs of clothes and had them practice two scenarios, one was buy the object, and the other was returning to the shop with a problem, I tell them to experiment and join in. I also did a price is right game comparing things like armani suits and other things with homeplus objects as a warm up.

It doesn't fit me

This is my lesson for listen and speak part two: it doesn't fit me.

I've attached the PPT which includes my presentation and the two activities.  I've also attached "The Price is Right" game which was on this thread, its good, but I've made a few small changes, and altered the commands so you don't have to click the mouse as much on each slide.

Basic Layout
Starts with the homer simpson mastercard ad, and a brief discussion about "priceless".
Then we do vocabulary from the book, followed by brief discussion about part-time jobs. You will want to change a few things as this has my name in it.
The last bit is a quick game, I call it higher or lower? The students are shown a product and they have to guess in their groups if it is more or less expensive in Canada. Lots of fun.
Should take up almost the whole class.

In case anyone *like me* is still stuck using this book, it is very similar to the Grade 2 Haas textbook Chapter 4 called Money, Money, Money.  You might be able to grab, adapt, and use some stuff from there if you want a little something different.

There are some great materials (lesson plans and various activities) concerning all this here.

Just a couple of the things look like this (but there are a few more).

Here's a (probably painfully easy) Who Wants to Be A Millionaire that covers the listen and speaks parts I and II.  Even though it's likely super easy, it *should offer a fun and different way to review for my students and perhaps it will challenge them as they are lower level.
Enjoy and blessed are the template makers.
